Or is it just his level of opposition?Andy Lee is a scrub, but he can punch. He certainly isn't a feather fist. Chavez seemed as if Lee were a slightly drunk teenage white girl. Dude, didn't even blink. I know he is a crusierweight, but he makes 160. His chin seems ridiculously good like his dad's chin.

I don't think Lee is much of a puncher. I'll be amazed if he can take more than a few flush left hands from Martinez.

    A little of both

He seems to take a shot with little trouble... but it is true that his opposition has seldom tested him

He definitely doesn't have a bad chin, because even at the "C" level he has spent the last few years at, he has never appeared hurt and he would have even here.

It's definitely better than I thought. Based on scares he had earlier in his career, I figured it would've proved shitty by now.

Regardless if his chin is good or not (he took Lee's shots better than I expected), his defense has undoubtedly improved.

Williams KO was brutal and traumatic....but Martinez is no power puncher.

    agree.

Pernell Whitaker had about half a dozen one-punch KOs in his career

Did you miss him fucking him all 3 opponents since Williams with single punches?

He is absolutely a puncher, not quite as much as the Paul rematch indicated, but he can punch at 160, despite him being a small middleweight.

I can almost guarantee Chavez won't be that confident charging forwards after taking a couple of flush straight lefts.

did you see how fucking awful all 3 of those opponents are?

There's as much evidence that Chavez has Juan LaPorte's chin as there is evidence that Sergio Martinez is some great power puncher... it's a load of shit

Oh shit, did you see Pernell Whitaker one-punch Juan Nazario and Louie Lomelli? Absolute fucking bomber, he is

They weren't total scrubs either though were they? They weren't exactly elite fighters, but capable enough. Dzindiruk was a 154 pounder so he doesn't count as much, but quite a few people actually thought he would beat Martinez.

Baker and Macklin are more Euro level fighters but they aren't glass chinned, and considering he's hurt pretty much everyone he's fought at 160, I don't see how he can be considered to be NOT a puncher.

Don't get me wrong, like I said he's not as massive a puncher as the Paul fight indicated, but he definitely has some pop at 160, certainly enough that someone like Chavez isn't going to just freely walk him down.

having some pop and being considered a banger are very different things

what do we have to gauge the chins of Baker and Macklin on? they never fought anyone

Sergio, THE PUSSY, has a 52. 83 kayo rate. He is not even an "average" puncher. It just goes to show you that if a guy puts his entre weight into a shot, it can cause damage. The pussy throw a hard shot and Paul William's chin was there. He went life and death with 2 barely world class fighters after. I was impressed with the SERGEI D. victory. The guy isn't a puncher. He isn't even an average puncher. What he is ..is a faggot with the worst style since Pernell Whitaker and possibly even more illegal. The guy shoudl get fined for running for 2:30 seconds of every round he fights in. I disdain sERGIO pUSSY AND ALL WHO LOVE HIM.

Sergio has the exact TYPE of power that would bother Chavez.

He doesn't stand in front, it comes at angles that Chavez won't be expecting it from.

I don't think he'll spark Chavez like he did Williams.............but he will get his attention, much more then Lee was able to get.

Lee is a very talented amateur and would medal Gold at this years Olimps if he had stayed there.
Chavez Jr is an overweight scrub and a cheat.

Is it just me or is Chavez starting to come off more and more like a cawk, in his post fight interviews?

Plus, he never seems to be able to take his piss-test before the fight even though he just re-hydrated 20 lbs. of water weight since the weigh-in, gets nervous when somebody wants to weigh his gloves, refuses to get on the scales for HBO on fight night, and acts like a general dick in the ring when he realizes the other guy can't really hurt him, on top of whining to the ref every chance he gets.

No doubt about it, the guy seems like a total chode. I look forward to seeing him flattened by Martinez.

In a proper era with depth across the divisions, Chavez Jr would be at home being beaten by his father for breaking into his trophy cabinet and trying on his belts.

I'm not so sure that happens. Arum and Chavez hold all the cards here...if Jr is allowed to get away with all the pre-fight bullshit he's a live dog.

Pre fight bullshit like what, PEDs and custom scales, no piss test etc?

Part of my thinks he's a live dog partly through size and youth alone, Martinez is pretty old and small, and part of me thinks none of that matters, Martinez is so much better he'll give Chavez a beating regardless.

Martinez needs to try and get that fight anywhere outside of Texas. Hell, even Vegas would be a lot better for him.

Make sure none of the Cole's are involved in this fight.

No doubt. In Texas with Lubricious Lawrence, Martinez would probably get a point deduction for layout Chavez out, while he recovered in his corner.
