This was not even competitive. The two new releases Rock of Ages & That's My Boy were no match for the circus afro animated critters of Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted in its second week. Droping only 41% from last week the animated family film took 35.5 million to remain in the top spot. Prometheus took a 60% plunge with $20.2 million, but that was enough to claim again the second spot. Rock of Ages $15 million third spot opening proved again that even with big stars like Tom Cruise, 80's nostalgia films are certain dead at the box office. Snow White & The Huntsman moved to the fourth spot with $13.8 million. The revised fairy tale film now has grossed $122 million. Flopping even worse than the rock musical, Adam Sandler's R-rated That's My Boy debuted in the fifth place with $13.0 million, which is less than the opening of Sandler's biggest career flop, Little Nicky which back then debuted with $16.5 million. Men In Black 3 dropped from fourth to sixth place with $10 million, for a domestic total of $152.6 million, still way below its $225 million budget without including the cost of publicity. Marvel's The Avengers took the seventh spot with $8.8 million for a domestic total of $586 million. It will most likely close with a little bit more than $600 million domestically and that is as far as it will go. Final numbers will be released tomorrow (Monday).

    Pancho,
The Avengers may get a re-release in August to hype the 3-hr director's cut coming in September on Blu Ray. If so, it might make it into the top two of all-time.

The Rock of Ages looks so dumb and unfunny.

Has Prometheus been a financial flop so far?

This movie is just a big love letter to the 80s. If you take cruise out the movie, there is no movie. Cruise looks completely at home in this role.

Sorry, it's just everything I hate in a movie and more.

    Musical - check
Shitty Hair Band Musical - check
Non-Singing actors singing in a Shitty Hair Band Musical - check
A hate for Every single band featured in the Soundtrack - check

The entire conceit that every single one of these songs I am familiar with, and that I hated growing up, was actually written and sung by an entirely fictional artist in this movie.

I hate Karaoke............and I think the only thing I will hate more then Karaoke..............is this movie. :shit:

    Buddy,
It won't. Even Avatar when it was re-released with extra footage did not earned more than $18 million in its re-release a few months later. People will buy the DVD/Blu-Ray and skip the theatrical re-release. It will have to gross over $58 million on top of its final numbers to beat TITANIC domestically and worldwide it hasn't made more than half of TITANIC's numbers. It will remain in the #3 spot and one day will switch to #4, but will not match or beat TITANIC.

I will not call it a flop like JOHN CARTER or BATTLESHIP, but it has performed below its expectations. It had a production budget of $130 million without including what was invested in its advertising campaign (which could easily be another $50 million or more) and so far has grossed $89 million. Adding the international numbers, the film will definitely show some profit, but I doubt 20th Century Fox is rushing for a sequel at this point.
