Canelo is with Golden Boy and they will not even consider Cotto at this point.

Yeah...it's hard to dispute the broken jaw based on the amount of blood in his mouth as the broadcast came to a close.

The way it ended was odd; however, that image should help redeem him somewhat. His corner wanted him to continue but you can see him stand up, call for the ref to tell him he couldn't continue. he made that decision for himself.

I don;t doubt he broke his jaw, but he seemed to break it the round before. It is part of the game, in a fight he was well ahead in, a fight where he needed to only run and hug for two more rounds, it's a decision that is hard to defend within the confines of the sport. And the fact is, I think he wanted out regardless. This guy can not handle resistance. He's not a fighter.

As someone said earlier...win or lose the Canelo fight was lost.

if he ran and hugged the rest of the fight he'd get lamblasted for that as well. It's really a lose lose scenario for the guy.

I was ready to give him shit up until I saw the state of his jaw in the lockerroom. It's difficult to blame the guy...especially because he couldn't close his mouth.

Someone mentioned Ali and his broken jaw...first...don't put Ortiz and Ali in the same sentence. With that said, Ali said (and Dundee) that he knew his jaw was broken and he was able to bite down and keep his mouth closed. Also, Ali wasn't bleeding like Ortiz was.

To say the guy "is not a fighter" based on what we just saw is hypercritical to me.

The jaw being broken was first noticed when Dundee took Ali's mouthpiece out and saw that it was bloody

What about Johnny Bratton against Gavilan? Abraham against Miranda? Liston against Marty Marshall? Tommy Morrison against Joe Hipp? "The fight with Canelo was lost" has nothing to do with anything... Fighters thinking like businessmen during a fight is part of the reason the sport is in such a sorry state... If it was about that, why not quit earlier?

Criticism of him for running and holding would be nowhere near as severe as it is for quitting... No one is saying having a broken jaw doesn't suck or hamper performance, but fighters (more fighters than just those I mentioned) have fought on with the same injury... When you couple that with Ortiz's infamous past, I don't see how one can be so quick to jump to his defense.

Furthermore "saying he's not a fighter based on what we just saw..." is not an accurate portrayal of my position. I am basing it off of this coupled with his pathetic display against Maidana and his cowardly bullshit against Mayweather. There is a precedent here, don't act like there isn't.

Agreed, it would be different if this was a guy who is a proven warrior, like Vazquez for example when he quit against Marquez, he got the benefit of the doubt.

Ortiz is a proven bitch, difficult to give a guy like that the benefit of the doubt, and he looked to be bitching up a bit before the broken jaw too.

Nice win for Lopez. He basically imposed his will on the bigger man and broke him down. Ortiz doesnt have the mental fortitude to be a top fighter.

Grats to Lopez. And he didnt even have to use a cheap shot to beat him!

Exactly, that is all I'm saying

The injury is clear and obvious, that's not debatable. However, this a man with an almost cartoonish track record. There's a difference between, say, Alexis Arguello in 1983 against Pryor basically saying "the hell with it" with a sad expression on his face after giving everything he had in two brutal fights and Victor Ortiz's actions. Arguello had proven himself as a guy with loads of courage and fortitude. Same with Vazquez. Ortiz is a guy who has had and continues to have a lot to prove.

He broke it earlier. He said in the interview that his corner kept telling him to fight on. And if you look at the end, he wanted to end it but his corner wouldnt. That is why he stood up and stopped it himself. You can also see him pushing his trainer off of him as if he was angry with him. Expect a new trainer for Ortiz after a long layoff.

And for the record, I think Matthyse would fuck up Rios.

    Have always thought that.

rios is easy to hit. if mattyse can hit somebody as easy as he would with rios its hard to imagine him losing legit.

a lot of tough guys would have quit in ortiz's position. his jaw was litterally hanging off his face and he was probably awallowing a lot of blood. ortiz should have continued vs maidana but tonight he had a legit injury.

Yup. A broken jaw is no joke. It hurts like fuck, let alone how much it hurts when getting punched on it.

I think Matthyse's body shots are really what would do in Rios' fat ass.

I was like 16 years old, broke it when I fell off my bike and landed face-first on concrete. It hurt really really bad. I don't want to imagine how much that shit would've hurt if someone punched me.

    No it wasn't.

Kirkland has more heart than Ortiz, but he's basically a bum. Canelo would have waxed him.

The BEST matchup was Canelo-Williams. Tall Paul was past it, but still better than Ortiz and Kirkland.

I don't blame Ortiz for quitting with a broken jaw. A lot of tough guy's have quitted with far less injuries ( think Vasquez quitting vs Marquez for a fucking broken nose ). It's his career and it's his life, and he had already given us for our money worth as it was an hell of fight.

Still, there's no doubt that Ortiz's mental toughness is not in the elite level for a fighter. But some of these guy's are pretty much insane and masochist so I can't fault him too much. But I can't give him the respect I do to these guy'S

Who gives a shit THAT he got his jaw broken. The point is he got his jaw broken by JOSESITO fuckin LOPEZ!

Stick a fork in that surfing faggot.

Neil is my boy, but I can't believe he said that Ortiz would KO Cotto at 147.

Cotto could be on the final stage of terminal cancer and still beat down Victoria.
