Awesome fight..... -Rios has the straighter punches, even his body shots travel a shorter distance. -Rios conditioning will be better at 140 -But he won't have the size advantage -We will REALLY see if Rios is 100% Mejican or does he have a bit of bitch in him like Ortiz. -Matthyse can't forget the body -Whoever gets their body work in the most, will WIN.
Honestly not sure, would like to see Rios at 140 first to get an idea. Would be an awesome fight though, probably the most action packed world class fight to be made in boxing.
Maidana is used up. And even so, despite beating Matthyse is the amateurs, Matthyse is just a better fighter than Maidana. Their respective fights against Alexander and Corley display that Matthyse is clearly better. Matthyse would hammer and stop Maidana, and I'd bet the farm on it. Rios would stop Maidana as well. Therefore, Matthyse vs Rios is a more compelling fight.
I think the fight will be made and I think Xplosive may be out of a farm. Very even match with a slight edge to Maidana, imo.
Matthyse is literally better than Maidana at EVERYTHING. Maidana has no edge in any category. Matthyse has a HUGE edge in chin.
Not really. I'd be shocked if Maidana won, he's simply not very good. Matthysse and Rios would both beat him up. Lucas Vs Rios is a way more interesting fight.
Agreed, there's really nothing Maidana does better than Lucas. Matthysse even has a better chin and more power. No real surprise that mikE - numbskull that he is - would pick Maidana to win. We're talking about a guy who thought that hopeless little midget Omar Narvaez would beat Donaire ::
Maidana beat him in the amateurs, but that means nothing. I think at this point, Matthyse would stop him in a one sided fight. Matthyse is still in his prime, and Maidana is past his. Prime Maidana gives Matthyse a tougher fight, but still gets beaten down in the end. Maidana should fight Crapsidis. That's a winnable fight for him.
I agree, and albeit meaningless, I'm still surprised Maidana beat him in the amateurs. Lucas has obviously got a lot better and Maidana hasn't.
Narvaez did better against Donaire than Bradley did against Pacquiao or Pacquiao did against Bradley, for that matter. I never picked Narvaez to win, but I did think he had an excellent chance. It's funny how your unwarrated arrogance has made me (and probably everyone else on this board) think of Erik Morales as being a douchebag through Pavlovian default.
Madaina has faster hands and shorter punches. There's no question Mathysse is tough too - that's why I want to see them fight. Madaina/Alexander and Mathysse/Alexander isn't apples to apples.
He lost 12-0, basically He showed up to survive and refused to mount any kind of effort to win the fight How is that "doing better"? Also, how does it in any way reflect that he lived up to your "excellent chance" nonsense?
MAIDANA is a clubfighter. He is garbage.Lucas verus Rios would be a drubbing for Rios. His retarded punch drunk ass would get stopped dead by Lucas.
matthysse would beat rios or maidana, and he will beat maidana because rios is with top rank. best u can hope for is seeing rios spar maidana in oxnard. rios wants that, but apparently maidana said he wasnt ready for it, when he showed up to camp with team garcia.
He really is an utter retard. And losing 12-0 is not all, he didn't even come CLOSE to winning a round, he fought like a negative journeyman, forget winning a round, he didn't even fucking try to win a round. Everything mikE says is wrong pretty much. Probably 1 in 20 of the statements he makes has any truth or validity. He's a moron.
1. Zab only "beat" Matthyse if you can't score a fight. 2. Who's to say Rios would beat Zab? Abril just made him look like a bum. You think Abril would beat Matthyse? Despite what their records say, in REALITY, Matthyse is still undefeated and Rios has one L on his record.
Agreed. I've never even been particularly high on Matthysse but I consider him undefeated. Especially that scrub Alexander, he beat him pretty clearly. And yeah Abril did make Rios look like a scrub. I think the weight played a factor, and it's safe to say Rios obviously does much better against less negative styles, but I did overrate him, he's obviously not as good as I thought.
I'm still a Rios fan. And I still think he'd grind down and stop Khan. But I'm also a Matthyse fan, and I've been saying for AWHILE that he would beat Rios.
NOBODY from 135-140 right now is "very good" really. Khan, Peterson, Rios, Matthyse. They're just good fighters. But not elite level if they were in a stronger era. In other words, if a guy like Pryor, Tszyu, or prime Chavez were around, they'd make easy work of all these guys.
He would have, but I think it would have taken him 8-9 rounds to do so, and Soto might have outboxed/wobbled him along the way. I'd give Maidana a better chance of beating Alvarado than Matthyse. Alvarado isn't much.
No way. Maidana is not only a bum, he can't punch either at the world level.. He is a fucking clubfighter. Soto would have schooled him. Plus Maidana can''t take the incoming. He isn't chinny, but he gets stunned frequently. He has a ton of heart, but he needs it because he sucks, real bad. Lucas matthyse really deserves a lot of credit. Soto is durable at least even if he is fighting well above is weight. Matthyse beat the shit out of him and stopped him. I don't remember Soto ever being stopped, but I never cared for midgets so he may have been.
Soto had never previously been down before Saturday. Matthyse is easily a bigger puncher than Maidana.
