It would take him longer than that to stop Miggy's brother.

cotto cant make welter he'd be dead at the weight. i dont like him going back down there vs anyone really. that was the main thing to me picking ortiz over him. ortiz is good offensively and i dont think cotto would have been able to take the punishment lopez or berto took if he had to drop back to welter the past 2 years.

in other news, the fight on telefutura was a pretty good brawl also. ramos vs esquivias. good weekend for boxing

Not all same type on injuries are as severe though. Just like with cuts, a bone can be broken in different ways and some of them hurt more than others. Not saying that Ali would have quit even with this injury but you can't make a direct comparison between them just because both had a broken bone. Personally I wouldn't criticize any fighter for retiring and that situation

It's amazing how anyone can criticize a fighter for not choosing to continue with a broken jaw.

The fact that Ortiz couldn't continue is what makes a feat like Ali continuing against Norton seem so amazing.

Not really. Ortiz has a rather extensive history of quitting.

Musze, the guy wanted out anyway. He was becoming more and more uncomfortable, Lopez's mocking coupled with his determination and toughness was getting to Ortiz.

    I can't believe you're an Ortiz fan :eek:hno:

He remained glued to the canvas for the ten count against Mayweather after attempting to commit an outrageous butting foul seconds earlier

Andrew Golota was compelling to watch, too

Seriously... first Maidana, then the Mayweather thing (I don't know how anyone can look at that and not think the guy was looking for a way out with the butt and/or was clearly capable of getting up after the punch that dropped him) ... there is a precedent with Ortiz, the accusations that he was looking for a way out yesterday are in no way, shape or form out of left field.

If what Slice says about an amateur fight with Khan is true, then there's even more evidence

yeah, this isn't some wild speculation on the part of those of us who do not believe Ortiz has the temperament or courage to be a top fighter

No, I know his history. History isn't really relevant. If his jaw was broken, then his jaw was broken.

Whether he was a pussy in the amateurs against Khan or showed heart getting up twice against Berto, it doesn't dull or amplify the pain of a broken jaw.

    It's still a broken jaw.

Yeah, I can't see how Muzse is defending Ortiz.

He's quite possibly the biggest front runner in history.

    Very little heart on Victoria.

But Trpl, you're kind of missing the point - before he got his jaw broken, several us picked up on Lopez already bringing the bitch out in Ortiz.

I honestly think if not for the broken jaw, he would have quit anyway. Lopez wasn't being denied and Ortiz was starting to wilt and bitch out.

From the PBF fight, & the other stuff documented, it's easy to believe that Ortiz is a bitch.
However, I don't think there's any shame in quitting due to a broken jaw.

I was falling asleep watching it on dvr. Not because the fight was dull. mY LAST CONSCIOUS ACT IN ROUND 7 was to turn it off. I knew if I drifted off, I'd wake up to hear Ortiz had quit. As soon as he did the brain stem punch, i knew he was looking to get out of the fight. The broken jaw gave him a legitimate reason to do what he wanted and , imo, what he was going to do anyway. He wanted out. tHAT IS WHY lOPEZ walked through fire. He knew if he kept coming, oRTIZ would quit. Like I said years ago, Ortiz is the type of guy you meet a jiffy lube. A dumb, affable guy who likes boobies, weed and video games. He does not have the disposition of a professional fighter. I said that at the mAIDANA fight. His post fight comments show he just isn't a fighter. It isn't an insult. Few people have what it takes to do it even if they have the talent. It is a hard way to make a living and he doesn't have it.

    Exactly.

The problem Ortiz has is ass clowns won't accept a legitimate reason for pulling the plug. If Ortiz had quit prior to the broken jaw, then of course prior history plays into it. If you check this thread even I said Vic looked like he was going to bitch up a few rounds before the end of the fight.

    "HOWEVER"

I can't for the life of me understand how anyone who saw the footage of him spitting up a mouthful of dark red blood, unable to close his mouth could not see it's a legit reason.

I'm not a fan of Ortiz, but I am reasonable.

That is the most significant part of the fight to me.

Ortiz has good offense, and Lopez was hurt a few times and DID walk through fire.

If he knew Ortiz was very tough mentally and physically, would he have been quite so primed to walk through the fire he did? IMO no, he had the extra motivation to do so because there was an end game, he knew Ortiz was a bitch and was very likely to fold if he just kept on coming.
