not sure why this was such an impressive victory. he fought a former featherweight who could no longer crack at 135 and above. even at 135, it's not like soto was some badass top five guy.

Seriously, Soto is a tiny dude. He has no business at 140.

I'm not sure if Maidana could beat Provodnikov.

soto has decent size for 140. he's nowhere near tiny. the fact that he went life and death with antillion was the reason i figured he'd get beat down.

I knew Matthyse would beat him down, but I thought he'd stop him between 8-10.

The fact that he iced him within 5 is impressive.

Neither Rios nor Maidana would ice Soto like that.

He made 120-130 for the majority of his career, he's no natural 140lber. That and he's fought nobody good at 140 until Saturday.

    120 to 130? No, he's a career 130 pounder, he's weighed in at 130 over 50% of his career I think.

He's not tiny, he's just clearly undersized at 140.

Why? Because Soto has been such a force at 140? It's entirely likely Madaina would've stopped Soto even sooner than Mathysse did.

That's exactly what he is, a total chodE

It has to be said, "Narvaez did better against Donaire than Pacquiao did against Bradley" is one of the dumbest things that's ever been said on fightbeat. It's qwerty levels of retardation.

Why don't you go check out the punch stats for Narvaez/Donaire and review the commentary and get back to mE. Narvaez landed harder and especially cleaner than Bradley or Pacquiao did against each other.

I wasn't at the fight and don't know how Donaire's superior power looked in person, but Narvaez fought a negative fight where he got the better of Donaire in a few rounds on tv. That he fought negative is why no one gives a shit that he got shut out on the cards. But in reality, a shutout was a pretty bad scorecard, imo. And that is demonstrable not only by watching the fight, but by reviewing punch stats.

I think MWS has been referring to punch stats to lock down how inarguable Pacquiao vs Bradley was, has he not?

Just so people can see what I'm talking about:

    Compubox PunchStat Report
Nonito Donaire W 12 Omar Narvaez 10/22/2011 New York
Did Narvaez come to New York to win or survive? He threw 24 punches per round and landed 6. The bantamweight average is 60 thrown per round.
