I've often thought about that. It happened a few months after Lewis/Vitali. Roy and Lewis both looked like shadows, both won. Lewis retired and Roy didn't.

We'd all remember Roy as an ATG who passed with flying colours when asked to show what he was really made of in his final fight.

Roy looked clearly faded, slower and weaker, but Lewis? No way he looked like a shadow.

Looked like the same lumbering oaf he'd always been, with a great right hand and a hideous, pussy, pawing jab.

Fair enough. Both had seen better days though.

how much will Roy get paid for this fight?

he's gradually fighting in more poorer countries...pretty soon he'll be fighting a prospect in Nigeria

Roy is getting 37.50 for this fight. With a win bonus of a goat.

It is funny. There are a lot of arrogant disliked fighters, where people would say yeah fuck him let him get KOed like that 10 more times I would enjoy it, but since Roy ate his humble pie even some of his haters kinda like him now.

agREED. Ruiz was made to order for Jones and was waiting right there to be cherry-picked. And while I still think it's an accomplishment that looks good on Jones' resume, it's not the monumental achievement some RJJ fans would like us to believe. It's not like he fought the real Heavyweight Champ at that time.

I wasn't much of a fan of his during his heyday, but I really do wish he would stop fighting for his own sake. I find no joy in RJJ hanging around and looking more pathetic each time he steps in the ring.

A shadow is probably an exaggeration, but Lewis had clearly seen better days by the time of the Vitali fight.

I agree, afterall he was 37 or so. But he peaked late, not unlike Martinez today, I don't think he was that far removed from his prime age 37, certainly not even close to a "shadow".

I think he was at his peak in his early 30's, even at the time people were saying Lewis aged like wine.

McCline is 8-1. I think that's pretty fucking crazy because he's the best guy Szpilka fought so far and Szpilka is very much unproven. I'm tempted to lay some money on McCline.

Toney repeating the trick even more assuredly took a bit of the shine off it

Fatness had more to do with Lewis looking subpar than age. And Vitali obviously. But Lewis & his big gut were a step off the pace that night

He took a 'cutting' drug designed to retain muscle while losing fat. Not condoning it, but I'm happy pretty much discounting it as an in ring factor.

I thought he said he was taking gear to recover from shoulder surgery?

Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to make excuses for this shit.

His official excuse was he was taking stuff to make up for how his pituitary gland was knocked out of place causing his Test levels to plummet.

The shoulder injury probably came about as a result of using the gear.

I'm not sure using the shoulder injury as an excuse should work, after all, it didn't work for Frans Botha in 1995

If that had been his official excuse I could live with it. Ruiz was never beating him in any case.

So Toney was on the gear and Ruiz used sexual assault as an in the ring strategy.

I think I'll forgive Mr. Toney in this instance.

I don't know. Jameel pretty much always looks like he's in the middle of making some sort of life-altering decision.

Like, "should I try and disarm these home invaders on my own, or wait for the police to show up and it might be to late."

Guy is pretty much nervous all the time..........and now he's in a strange country with an unfamiliar opponent.

I'd stay away from the gambling halls if I were you.

Roy seems to be having a lot of trouble against this polish replacement. Got dropped in round six and doesn't look his usual self. Definitely past his prime.:NotThink:

Roy did NOT thank god after the fight. Probably pissed he's only letting him fight that bad.

When was the first time he didn't do that?

It's just the realization you had 15 minutes ago that Roy isn't in his prime. One of the more unusual posts in Fightbeat history. :dunno:

Dude... I was trying to be funny - you laughed... what's your problem? I'm the second biggest Roy fan on this board. :eek:hno:

So did he not thank god before or what?

I'd say it was sarcasm from HR.

He got the split-nod anyhow, too bad the Poles didnt draft in an ancient Michalczewski as the replacement, would have had comedy value

As for the McCline result, if you've seen him at all since his last comeback, its no surprise, he's a statue at this point, makes shannon briggs look like paul williams by comparison in terms of workrate
