Women will always lose to men. They would be checking their tits and get laid out.

I see women's boxing on a weekly basis. Synch swimming and rhythmic gymnastics only on a quad annual basis. If you are correct, and I don't think you are, then where are the competitions going on, how many competitors are there, and how the hell do you know the answers to either of these questions?

Irish, that girl will hit you so many times from so many angles, you wouldn't know what to do.

In all honesty bro, you would never lay a glove on her and she'd punch you half to death.

Actually Irish used to box in college and still trains. My guess is he lands at least one glove, Stinger.

If he does, that's all he lands.

I might not be able to do too much with her, but she wouldn't do anything with me. Pete Taylor trained me, Katie Taylors father. The first thing he trained us was how to not get hit, and how to move forward throwing shots. When I was in College, they had us in supreme shape, but we didn't really know how to box.

It took Pete exactly one month to show me the fundamentals. I could go three minutes with all of those girls and not get hit clean once. Pete would show us- its no good just keeping your hands up. So many guys clench their fists, its amazing how an open hand can be such a potent defense, parrying, deflecting, catching and blocking.

Pete used to show us how to turn one shot into the next, as the left travels across the body, it winds the right up, and vice versa. Jab-Sway-Jab...basic stuff, jabbing, stepping, catching with the open mitt, stepping in with a jab, you can run the clock down for 3 minutes with that. A guy called Norman "Nobby" Nobbs used to run a gym in England called "Losers Unlimited" where he had an entire stable of fighters who worked fulltime as "opponents" and used to be able to negotiate a fight and never get hurt or cut. Taylor tries to pass that on to everyone in his gym. One of his great lines is about how it is better to win a fight 1-0 than 25-24, because the guy who won 1-0 got hit 24 times less.

He's a great coach and his daughter will win Gold, I am sure of it. And unlike Michelle Smyth, she will do it without the gear.

Have you read up on Irelands Katie Taylor, Karl? She is a Gold Medal hopeful for Ireland. Her father trains people in an old renovated fishermans shed near the Harbour in the town where I went to school.

Her father reminds me of Bill Sykes from Oliver Twist.

Yeah, Termite Watkins. He was the number one contender in 1980 at jr. welterweight.

He was the youngest National Champion ever at 16, and lost a hotly disputed verdict to Saoul Mamby for the WBC Light Welterweight title in 1980.

In 2004, he formed and coached the Iraqi Olympic Boxing Team, and there has been a book written on him currently in negotiations for a movie with the lead being either Matthew Mcconaughey or Dennis Quaid.

Whoa! I am impressed. She reminds me of yours truly 30 years ago the way she bounces and moves right to left working off her jab and countering with that hook. I'll be following her.

Ann Wolfe is the only female fighter that I ever truly respected and in awe of. Don't follow the woman scene very much but it her and Rijker were in the same weigh range, Wolfe would have crushed her imo.

skill wise wolfe wasnt better than ali. let alone rijker. maybe she could have beaten ali with toughness. she certainly wanted the fight more so than vice versa.

    My thoughts on her chances.

I hope all of this publicity and time spent doing interviews, public appearances and cross-country speaking engagements have not doomed her chances as the World Champion Ren Cancan has been in isolated training in the mountains of China for months now.

I also hope Katie avoids any Central Asian opponents, they always have the fix in.

She won today, but did not look sharp.

Her big test comes Wednesday vs. Ren Cancan in the semis.

Marlen became the first U.S. boxer to be assured of a medal today.
