Agreed-That slow, pressuring, style is made for Vitali. He's quite happy shuffling and sliding backwards all night sliding weird shots into your noggin from stupid angles. Wlad on the other hand can be "got at". In any case, I have a theory that any fighter who takes sustained punishment from Vitali is rarely able to do so again. I think he is criminally underrated. He's too slow and his joints are too declined for him to punch off with any real authority, but he might just be the heaviest-handed dude the division has seen for some time. He disfigures guys with arm-punches.

A simple way of putting this is Vitali is tough and Wald is a pussy.

I would hate to be Tony Thompson. All that pressure.

Dude is 60 years old and has 7 kids. He has try. Wald is a pussy for fighting this old man river once, like a pussy, and having the gall to beat up this old timer again in front of the brain dead masses. Who would pay to watch Wald, the pussy beat up a poor old man.

If we're being honest with ourselves, The Tiger was humiliated by Mo Harris in the "Fist Full of Dollars" final.

Not only the knee injury but the KD itself were unusual. How often do you see temple shots like that? The only two I can think of are Berbick & Tubbs and both had very good chins otherwise.

In normal circumstances you'd say he'd had his chance & dems the breaks but if guys like Manual Charr are getting shots Id much rather see Vitali tie up the Solis loose end conclusively, because that fight showed promise.

The slow-mo replay clearly shows he was considerably disoriented by the punch.

Go to 0:58 of this clip where the punch lands and Solis immediately stops throwing, ceases to come forward, puts on the earmuffs and then instinctively begins to backtrack knowing something isn't quite right. The leg injury was just bad luck, the shot, while not typical of a stunning punch, landed at an odd location and clearly affected Solis.

we'll have to disagree on this one, only think it was an odd accident, and the punch vitaly landed had nothing to do with it imo

He was hurt. But id sooner see him given another chance than this guy

I think Odlanier might be the 3rd best heavy in the world, but his resume sucks and he doesn't deserve another title shot at this point. Let him fight Adamek or Arreola or any of the big euros right now and see what happens.

Normally I'd agree completely but he's fighting Charr.

I had some charr grilled courgettes and tuna steak the other day, it was pretty nice.

Solis was hurt for sure, it's clear as day looking at the video posted.

No, he wasn't hurt at all, and if you think Montiel was hurt against Donaire you don't know boxing.

He wasn't hurt at all, he was just taking a nap and having a dream that he was Zab Judah.

Yes he was hurt. By a temple shot. Not likely to be replicated and not a conclusive indictment of his punch resistance. Even Zab has barely been hurt like that by a punch since, that i can remember. Berbeck, Tubbs, both had strong chins through the rest of their careers. Temple KOs are strange

I'd say it's pretty indicative of his punch resistance. Fighters who take a punch well, and have good "chins" generally handle temple shots and behind the ear shots pretty well too.

I guess it's possible it was a real fluke shot, but I bet Solis proves to be fragile in future fights.

This. He got hit in an odd-spot by a big man and reacted badly to it. Another good example is Quarry vs Chuvalo, where Chuvalo hit Quarry high on the head with a left hook leaving Quarry in a confused state for just long enough to lose track of the count and get counted out. Quarry had been hit with far harder bombs in his career and kept trucking.

Which is why it raises my ire about the fight being called a "farce".

    Shit happens.

    Put the mikE down man.

Evander Holyfield was vulnerable to temple shots. Some people, usually black, if you look at them, there is a very thin part where their dome meets their face. Same with the back of their neck. There are police chokeholds that will kill certain African Americans and leave Cletus the Slack Jawed Yokel relatively unharmed.

We'll see. The way he reacted to it, and the fact that it was just so glancing, even if he's mainly vulnerable to temple shots - I would honestly be pretty shocked if he turned out to be relatively durable.

I once headbutted a golf ball with my forehead and it barely watered my eyes. Some parts of the skull are just far thicker than others, even with Irish people.

  25. Hut*Hut

    Hut*Hut The Mackintosh of temazepam

Another good example. Temple shots just happen. A guy can go 50 fights never being seriously rocked then go rubber legged

  26. mikE

    mikE "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Screw you. His point was bullshit. Argued in a similar style, but my strong point is being right on what I argue, not how I argue.

Of course, it's almost impossible to hurt someone with a forehead shot. Even guys with glass chins aren't going to react from getting hit in the forehead.

But Solis was quite so easy to hurt with a temple shot, I can't see it not happening again - even if he is mainly vulnerable to the temple. It's the fact that it was a glancing blow that makes me think Solis is going to prove to be pretty easy to hurt. Even Tyson Vs Berbick was way more of a clean shot than Solis took.

I'd like to take credit for being the first guy who noticed Solis was hurt by that punch.

Agreed. It wasn't a farce, Solis is just shitty.

And fat. Yet despite being shitty and fat, he is probably one of Vitali's best wins and a zillion times better than the guy he is fighting next.

    MTF
