I can't believe you didn't list The Godfather.

Cast Viggo Mortensen is becomes an Indy movie, the budget loses about $100 million. It's well regarded but gets compared to "Drive", so loses any possible box office profits.

It hits On-Demand Cable before it even shows in a movie theatre.

That's sad, as Viggo shits all over Tom Cruise as an actor.

what does that have to do with Jack Reacher?

  9. I guess cos the character features in a load of 'novels' written for 'young adults'.

Anyway, we're getting off the track: :shit: :shit:

All i know is that movies have been based off of books since the existence of movies. And from the Trailer, this movie looks like it could be rated R.

  11. 'Chernobyl Diaries' - not a book.
'The Avengers' - not a book
    'Prometheus' - not a book
'The Amazing Spiderman' - not a book
'Ice Age 4: Continental Drift' - not a nook

You may have kicked the shit out of his point about books to movies only starting recently, but his point about Hollywood's lack of good script writing lately is spot on. I think it had to do with the screen writers strike. Did all those guys get fired and replaced or what?

I'm not even sure that is accurate. Viggo is very good but I think Cruise's acting ability is vastly underrated because of the type of films he tends to star in. Cruise mostly does action films and in that vein he's definitely better than Viggo so why would anyone think Viggo would be better in this film than Cruise? Because of A History of Violence? Cruise was outstanding in the drama, Born on the Fourth of July and I think one of his best and most underrated acting talents is his ability to capture the perfect facial expressions and show the type of looks without speaking that make you know exactly how his character is feeling. (I could list some examples here but nobody's following anyway so why bother.) Look my point is that after watching Jack Reacher I realized that Tom Cruise is probably my first or second favorite actor, not because of his ability but because I've enjoyed such a high percentage of the films he's released. The guy so rarely ever lets me down.

    Just for the record:

Jack Reacher - 8.5/10. Really enjoyed this film. It started out very well, kind of slowed down toward the end, but picked up again for the finale. I thought it compared similarly to Shooter, where you have an action film that seems more real and drama like than your typical fare, but it still is chocked full of action. Also, Cruise was more of a bad-ass in this one than Wahlberg in Shooter. This one had it all, mystery, drama, bits of comedic dialogue, very good dialogue, and of course action. I even enjoyed the driving chase scene which I'm normally not a fan of. I was against seeing this one but glad I checked it out. It's outstanding with good replay value and a definite recommendation.
