Chavez Sr. was quite competent out the outside but obviously his game was up close.

Cotto, Pacquiao, Gamboa spring to mind.

And yeah Hagler's arms were long.

Shit, Duran too really, he only had about a 67" reach or so, he could box from the outside when he wanted to.

  15. He had long fucking arms. He probably had the same reach as hearns to be honest with you.

    Anyway...Pernell Whitaker...OBVIOUSLY.

Not the adjectives I'd use. He was boring and bitchy. Hagler is the biggest baby in the history of the sport, scratch that in all of sports. Al Bundy Hagler cries to this day about the gay Ray loss. I can't think of any sports figure in any sport who has cried for longer. One of the poorest sports in any sport.

that leonard/duran/hagler/hearns era must have been shitty for this so called boxing fan^^

3 of the 4 were boring pussies of some sort.

Of the 4 , I only like Hearns. The era wasn't about excitement though. Hagler, the baby, SRL, the cocksucker and Hearns were all highly skilled fighters although SRL and Hagler were boring.

Duran should not be on this list because he had about a quarter of the skill of the others. There was no fab 4. There was only the 3.Unlike Duran, the quitter, Hagler was not a baby in the ring where it matters.

If you find Hagler, a versatile boxer/banger with a tungsten chin who unleashed some fabulous beatings in his career 'boring", I would hate to know what it takes to excite you.

Hagler may be a poor sport (I don't blame him, I thought he deserved the nod in that fight, though it was closer than it should have been) but he was the antithesis of boring

Nonsense. Most of his fights were tedious, in my opinion. I hear accounts of his fights in magazines and newspapers and they say what you did. I disagree. What do I know, I have only just watched them. I think the fight was a clear loss for Hagler. Either way, it was not the type of fight anyone should bitch about. It wasn't Pac/Bradley here. It was close fight. I could see how Hagler could reasonably have gotten the nod, although I disagree. I don't think he has the right to cry has he has for years, especially because he gave away rounds fucking around. He should have sucked it up and accepted it. He wasn't robbed. He makes it out like it was Lewis/Holy I and it wasn't. It was a close fight that could have gone either way. However, it is worse than that. He gave rounds away and then cries.

I think Hagler was more pissed that Ray retired rather than give him a rematch.

Yeah if Hagler had done his job he wouldn't have needed one, but you can bet Marvin would have granted one either way.

He definitely deserved a rematch, you can't argue with that

as far as his being "tedious" ... I fail to see how any of the hellacious beatdowns he put on guys like Tony Sibson, Alan Minter, Hamsho, Mugabi, Obelmejias, Hearns could be classified as "tedious"... It was a great, dominant champ kicking the shit out of people

Agreed, Hagler was awesome, and a great all round style. Very watchable fighter. Tough, aggressive, strong, powerful, pretty quick for a middleweight, and importantly well rounded and skilled.

I think he is the second best middleweight ever after Monzon.

I agree that Hagler could be considered boring. I found him enjoyable to watch, but he was mostly a defensive boxer/counteropuncher

Somehow Hagler has developed, in the eyes of some, this reputation as being a safety first, average punching boxer who wasn't fun to watch when he wasn't that at all. Hagler wasn't a one punch bomber like Hearns or Julian Jackson, but he could hit. And, while he definitely was a boxer first, when he chose to turn up the heat, folks got hurt...like the ones you mentioned.
