Boxer's true heights

Because of Buddy and Sly's bizarre height-off being the talk of the town, let's discuss boxer's true heights.

What boxers have you guys met and how tall do you reckon they are?

I know exaggerations are common but strangely some British boxers are at least their listing. I know Chris Eubank and I've met Michael Watson. Watson is a legit 5'11. I swear Chris is taller than his listed height. He looks more like 5'11 than 5'10, and basically the same height as Watson. I think Benn is closer to 5'10 than his listed 5'9. Jake noticed the same thing when he met them, they were at least their listed heights. Strange but true.

I think Tyson and Tua are also guys who are at least their listing, which is ironic, being short heavies, you'd think their heights would be really exaggerated.

As a rule it seems most fighters are a bit smaller than their listing though. Ike has met Oscar, Stevie has met Hopkins, they both think they are about an inch shorter than their listing, which seems to be common, adding an inch.

Mosley, Floyd, Pacquiao etc, are probably all about an inch shorter than their listing, if Oscar really is only 5'9. Apparently Roy is a legit 5'11.

Funnily enough baby deer Khan's 5'10 seems to be pretty exaggerated - according to this site - http://www.celebheights.com/s/Amir-Khan-47627.html

 

It seems the exaggerations stopped at light heavy or get diminished. Thesadly recently deceased Julio Cesar Gonzalez was at least his listed 6 foot 2 maybe taller. He was a tall lanky guy. Steve said Margarito was shrimpy too.

I agree with you, it tends to be smaller guys who get exaggerated.

Though personally I've never believed Holy's 6'2 listing. He looked more than 3 inches shorter than Lewis and Bowe. I think Holy is more like 6'1.

Paul Williams is fucking tall, he has to be taller than his listing.

 

I've always thought Carlos Monzon was 6 feet 1 at the very least.... Could partially be the illusion of his very "tall" style, but he seemed to have serious stature for a Middleweight

Nah. I think Monzon was an even 6'0. 6'1 TOPS. There's no way in Hell he was as tall as say, Pavlik.

I've interviewed Oscar in '05 at the Jacksonville Airport, he is a legit 5'10", because I'm 5'9" and he had me by an inch!

I've met Bernard Hopkins in his fourth fight back in '90, and he looked 6'1" to me.

I met Benn and Watson also. I am 5' 10'' and Benn was pretty much exactly as tall as I am. Watson was about the same height but that was after his injury, so his true height is at least 5' 11'' I agree.

Well, when you are really awesome at boxing, sometimes you aren't in a lot of exciting fights, because you are too good for the other guy to make it interesting.

Still, I'd say Monzon/Valdez II is a very entertaining fight between two outstanding guys.

Jumping around, clinching and whaling away on occasion is called "Unorthodoxed" in today's fight game. I think he's good, but not this other world p4p'er the alleged "EXPERTS" try to push on us. We have Paul Williams' chin and Kelly Pavlik's booze to thank for that.

As a legit 6'2 I can confirm Jameel McCline's 6'5 and Marko Hucks 6'2. Arthur Abraham and Zeljko Mavrovic might be a centimeter off but nothing major.

 

Interesting, Huck looks shorter than that on screen to me, closer to 6 foot, and McCline looks fucking huge, he looks like his listed 6'6.

And yeah Arabham looks around 5'9 on screen.

 

Benn's 5'10"?

Yeah this is what happens when I entertain Buddy's shit. Now the "height off" is a big thing. I should just ignore that crazy fella when he's e-backed into a corned and starts sprouting bullshit in desperation...and just let him say whatever he wants without commenting.

That's why although I think he's genuinely a nice person, I find him to be an irritating cunt. He causes silly controversy all the time because of his insecurities.

 

Wlad Klitschko was asked by a BBC pundit how tall was he and he replied that he was 6-5. Supposedly Foreman and Wlad stood next to each other and Foreman reckoned Wlad was only 6-5. Against the supposedly 6-2" David Haye, Wlad looked every inch 6-6 or more. Vitali is definitely bigger than 6-5, that's Lewis listed height. Steve Collins always looked a legit 6-0 guy to me as did Eubend, who looked way bigger than 5-10.

And Eubank is another guy who is a bit taller than his listing, he is honestly 5'11. Watson, when he stands up as straight as he can, is 5'11.

 

I've known Eubank for years, he is definitely taller than 5'10, probably 5'11. Big middleweight, in person he looks tallish and wide. I remember seeing a picture of him next to Tyson once, and Chris looked at least an inch taller and not that much "smaller". I'm surprised he could ever make 160.

I've seen a pic of wald pussy and Lewis standing next to each other, and they looked the same height, I think wald pussy is probably more like 6'5 than 6'6. Vitali is taller for sure, at least 6'6 I reckon.

 

I wouldn't get worked up about it or take it too seriously, I think people just find it funny.
