Yep that's the impression I got at the time, half of his glove hit the neck, and half of it thudded into the rear most part of his jaw.
No it didn't, he was clearly gone on the way down. The only reason fighters ever DO hit the back of their head on the mat is if they are already borderline KTFO, and have no real control over their body.
Nah...the canvas woke him up. His eyes were closed as he fell. he can thank the canvas that he was able to continue.
I think Khan's accuracy is as good as anyone's, although that's not really talent. Khan has been let down by his chin twice and a shitty ref who made two once-in-a-lifetime deductions. Otherwise, he has boxed the shit out of everyone he's fought when he wasn't getting hurt. That's Norris. That's also Hide, for that matter. Paul Vaden was a bottom-tier titlist. Even the faded Zab is a better win for Khan, or at least very similar. Norris had better wins. Of course, I'm not comparing careers. Khan might be at the beginning of his prime right now. My point was simply that he has similar talent to Norris and a similar flaw. And he does.
mikE :atu: As accurate as anyone in boxing history he says! :atu: I used to think he was a troll, and sometimes I am unsure, but I think he really is just this stupid. Seems hard to believe, but I think it's true. And basically he has no idea what he's watching.
Possibly, but that would require 36 flawless minutes of attention from Amir. One mistake and Ward would find the left hook downstairs and Amir would be adding glass ribs to his glass neck and glass chin collection.
He was. Khan is usually accurate until he gets tired and starts to faff-faff with his punches. Same with Haye. Haye could knock the snot off a pin-head for a few rounds, then his facial expressions and vocalizations kick in.
The point is, you lover of boxing, that Ward bust his fucking hump in three very entertaining fights. You come on here and menstruate ad nauseum about how boring Klitschko is, then when a guy does bring serious entertainment, you piss and moan about how you don't care how little he got paid. You are like a dame who says that she will, then says that she won't.
Yeah Khan always looks accurate in the first couple of rounds. His hands are fast and he can throw straight punches, that alone gives him a pretty good connect %. When he starts to tire a bit, or get hurt, his accuracy takes a nosedive. His hands slow down and become sloppier, his balance becomes worse, his sense of distance and timing becomes worse, and he starts to miss more.
That's because he never graduated from being an amateur fighter. He has the same mentality. He never learned how to properly measure distance, pace himself nor rest as the rounds go on. Jermain Taylor had the same problem which is why he always faded in his fights.
ward never entertained me much. his fight with augustus was his best one, and it should have been a loss. crooked judging there for the mick. use that analogy with someone else, all the dames i know will and do.
Absolutely - which is why it's so funny how misguided people are that blame Roach, or think Khan is even capable of doing anything differently. I've watched Khan since he was an amateur, and he is essentially the same fighter.
Very interesting point. Steve Lillis said on British TV that David Price noted this about Khan, that Khan looked like he was still in the amateurs, every time he got tagged, he felt he had to go and tag the other guy right back, like amateur boxing. Khan just never made the progression from the am game to the pro game.
His beat down of Neri was a very good fight. As was his loss to Antonio Diaz. That was a war. Gatti-Ward 1 was also an entertaining war. Although, the trilogy overall is THE most overrated trilogy ever. There was NOTHING special at all about Gatti-Ward 2 & 3.
And just like Jermain Taylor, he throws punches with ZERO thought at all behind them. They both throw combinations just to throw them. The greats like Floyd, Roy, Leonard had strategy/thought/intentions behind the combos they throw/threw. Both Taylor and Khan are/were physically talented, but neither ever reached their hype because of how flawed they are, and how low both's ring IQ's are. They have the lowest ring IQ's of any top fighters in history. Prime Taylor was a much better fighter than Khan though.
No they don't, not in some cases. Some fighters are just incapable of progressing past a certain level. He showed a very slight improvement after having been with Roach for a year or two, but that's it. Khan is a basic and stupid fighter, he is simply incapable of moving past a certain level of skill and ringsmarts. If you spend years teaching Mayorga to fight like Sweet Pea, and he couldn't, would the coach have to take blame there too? Some fighters are just what they are, and there is nothing you can do to change that. Khan is a fast, rangy amateur with no defense, and that's all he'll ever be.
