my girlfriend had gone to bed a little bit earlier. The next day she said "what the hell were you yelling about last night? something about 'GET HIM, DANNY!!! FINISH HIM!! YEAH!!!' ... who's Danny?"::
:laughing::laughing: Khan is a turd. I could watch him get KTFO in his next 15 fights and chuckle each time.
Like I said, Rios would beat him down. Matthyse would have beaten the living shit outta him also. Gatti has a chance vs Maidana, but I'd pick Chino. Shit, currently I'd take Ruslan Provodnikov to beat down Gatti.
I know it, man. When that shot landed, I jumped up out of my chair, yelling like I had won the lottery. It was perfect, like a Fight Night: Champion knockdown. Khan is indeed a pile of shit.:laugh11:
Pretty much. Gatti was involved in a lot of fun fights because he was extremely vulnerable but had a lot of courage. He was not a particularly good fighter. He was managed carefully for the most part, and still it was life-and-death almost every time out.
i liked gatti and enjoyed many of his fights. the rodriguez fight being the best one, to me. i probably didnt even make a point to watch gatti ward 1 live after the tszyu fight because i assumed he'd kick the shit out of ward.
I'll never forget that Gatti-Ward 1 was on the same night as Tszyu vs Ben Tackie. I was almost positive that Tszyu-Tackie was gonna be the better fight.
it gets way worse. I decided that Ben Tackie was going to WIN and predicted as much. "Tszyu is vulnerable to right hands... he'll think Tackie is easy to hit and he'll be too loose and he'll wind up getting caught by one of those bombs (Tackie could hit like a bastard when he let his hands go) and the end will be in sight for him" I don't think I have ever been more wrong than that. Pretty much the exact opposite happened. Tszyu came out all business, defensively sharp and put on a boxing clinic. He did an especially good job of negating that right hand and probably won 12-0 if I remember correctly. Ridiculous. That was pretty much the end of Tackie as any kind of real contender.
Tszyu-Tackie was like Lewis-Tua on a smaller stage. A fight most expected to be explosive, but because of how limited Tackie/Tua were, they were just one sided, VERY boring clinics. Tszyu and Lewis didn't wanna get caught, so both just played it safe and won every round. And dumbass me picked Tua and Tackie to win those fights...........
I thought Lewis would win but that Tua wouldn't be so easily discouraged. I think he tasted a couple of decent shots early and decided he didn't want to be so bold. Say what you will about him, but Lewis was a crushing puncher. Tackie, I was convinced would KO Tszyu. Tszyu made him look like a guy who had never been in a boxing match before. Like he was filming an instructional video on how to win a unanimous decision.
Yeah, Lewis definitely hurt Tua. What a disgraceful performance that was by Tua though. SHOT ass Tyson gave a harder effort vs Lewis than PRIME Tua did.
what were the prelims? wasn't the Etienne/Clay-Bey fight on that card? That was a fun fight I remember Tackie and Mr. John Molina, Mr. John John Molina what was the other fight?
It's true Tyson tried for a while, just had nothing Tua said "fuck that shit" and took the money and ran, probably to IHOP
Ahhhhhh, Etienne. Who can forget the hype train that once surrounded him. He beat up LAMEon Brewster, and everybody acted like he was the second coming of Tyson.
oh yeah, I remember that now Leija was thought to be washed up by then and it wound up being a sort of Indian Spring for his career after that
:hammert: X, do you remember the interviews in the dressing rooms before the fight? I remember whoever was doing the interview asked Tua "do you have anything to say to your Opponent before you head to the ring?" and Tua, looking all spacey and shit, said "I love you, man" and I thought, on behalf of my fellow viewers, "that's it. we're fucked."::
