situations like this team broner knew weeks ago their guy wasnt making weight. at that point they should have simply alerted all parties concerned. escobedo is big enough to fight at lightweight. he's done so in the past. im sure a small financial concession could have been worked out at that point.

waiting until now only means broner has an unfair advantage. this could have been avoided.

Absolutely agree. They should have told the other camp, held it at 135 for an even playing field, so Escobedo didn't have to weaken himself more than Broner did.

This is a low, cunty move whatever way you look at it. I can't wait till Boner gets shit kicked.

Fuck him indeed, low move from Broner and his team

HBO and Showtime should ban guys for two years for not making weight and or not alerting the other party in a timely fashion.

I fucking hate this weights business, its as illegal as cutting your opponent with a blade and bleeding him out before the fight starts. Its using an inequality of bargaining power to gain physical advantages. Its immoral and dangerous and it has to end. We've gone from gatti-gate to this.

Fuck it. The ideal scenario would have been Bedo pulling out, and HBO freezing Broner out for a while, to teach the little cunt a lesson.

    thats rich, coming from you.

considering your guy, wald pussy, typically has at least a 15 pound weight advantage over his foes on average.

Really? And he uses just what part of his bargaining power to weaken these guys?

And Thompson was like 7lbs smaller. At heavyweight, that ain't shit. At 130 its a lot.

All that black semen is polluting your brain man.

the guy is 20 to 30 pounds bigger than a lot of guys he has fought. was the above post serious?

Neil, the guys he is fighting know there is a chance they will be outweighed. Sometimes its a few lbs, othertimes its 20lbs. Sometimes its an advantage for Wlad, othertimes, a la Haye, its something he has to keep an eye on and be wary of.

The crux of the matter is that they know the deal in advance. Wlad can't suddenly show up and say "Ta-Da, 20lbs over, psyche, deal with it".

With the non-heavies, dudes are working hard to make weight. So they harm themselves doing it, only for the likes of Broner to come in fresh as a daisy and strong as hell, not just because they are heavier, but because they never subjected themselves to the deleterious effects of weight making.

It's a double whammy. A bone-dried-out guy versus a fresh, heavier guy, compounded yet again by the fact that it seems the superior fighter {how else would they have the advantage in bargaining power to begin with} always has the better end of the deal.

A heavier, stronger, better fighter against a weight-drained dude who had no notice of the predicament he was about to face. A recipe for guys to get hurt, which they have done, at the lower weights.

The next time you see Ruslan Chagaev bursting his arse to make 224 only to then find out that Wlad was "Overweight", yeah, come back and let me know.

Both Klitschkos fight in a dvision with no weight requirements, and both are in good shape, its not Bob Sapp or Butterbean weight. Can't see how they can be faulted if their peers are undersized. It diminishes their accomplishments somehwat that there aren't any good big heavies to compete, and its undoubtedly a factor in their dominance, but none of it compares with the bullshit we've seen in recent years in the smaller weight classes.

There is no argument. Using economic power to obfuscate the concept of weight divisions and weight limits is reckless and unsporting. Talk about the Klitschkos is a desperate incongruous and ill-conceived attempt to deflect from this simple truth.

How anybody who claims to know fuck all about boxing could attempt to draw a comparison between the advantage Broner had over Escobedo and the "advantage" Wlad has over Tony Thompson or Ruslan Chagaev....is quite beyond me.

What damages Escobedo is not just that Broner is heavier....its WHY Broner is heavier. Broner didn't bother making weight. Escobedo did, and that's the key element. I don't remember Chagaev having difficulty with Wlad because he'd weakened himself making weight.

Whats also annoying that the paymaster, HBO, should be immensely annoyed that a competitive match-up on paper was practically sabotaged and turned into a showcase by both one of the fighters and both handlers, with Escobedo now knowing that he will get a shot at a vacant title regardless of the result.

Yeah, but the guy proposed to his future wife, which you know, more than makes up for the fact that somebody could have gotten hurt and that the fight was over before it started. Who gives a fuck about Joey Gamache's health when we get a highlight reel KO in return, right?

I remember Gamache being treated on this very forum as some sort of a plaything whose very misfortune was a source of amusement, used to actually mock the guy.

The fact that he was the victim of a criminal offense seemed to have been deemed irrelevant, at least relative to the entertainment value of the mugging itself.

Yeah, probably so, with the last one being a pretty long time ago. You going to bring it up every time I post in the boxing section now? Because like I said it had nothing to do with this particular thread.

Also I'm not going to sit here and pretend I don't think boxing is dying, anymore then you should sit there and pretend it's in the same state it was in when we first started posting.

A long time ago I made an opinion once or twice on the state of the sport when others were talking about it as well. Other than that I rarely post in the boxing section these days. So since I don't make weekly proclamations that boxing is dead I wouldn't consider myself a doom and gloom guy on the sport even if you do.

Lib4Lib....boxing is like a pond that never quite dries out. Sometimes were are reduced to a few fat muddy catfish from the Genus Broner wriggling around in the mud, but pretty soon they drag themselves onto dry land, sprout a few legs and make their way to a fresher deeper pond. Of course, Genus Vitalis Asiaticus is there waiting for them, but how and ever, we must muddle on.

Personally, I look at Floyd, Vitali, Froch, Ward, Manny Pac, Donaire and maybe a few others and I say to myself that these are guys we could have relied upon to satisfactorily represent the present era in almost any other era. It's a bit shallow but those are good fighters that we could reliably say would do quite well in any era, and maybe even dominate in some.

That said, I also take the view that HBO is a force for bad. They used to be a force for B.A.D, now its just plain old b-a-d. Bad. You can't polish a turd, but that's what HBO keep trying to do with guys like Broner, Kirkland and Ortiz. In the meantime, guys like Froch are fighting on Epix or some other shit. How can that be? How can it be that Froch, a genuine if limited warrior who always makes weight, cannot get a look in on HBO, but Broner and the perennial quit job that is Ortiz have been regulars.

    :dunno:

Functional weight advantages. Handspeed extravaganzas. The bullshit-bingo of a busted system.
