Dark Knight Rises Had Third Best opening Ever!

The blackout is over and the final weekend box office numbers have been released. As was expected The Dark Knight Rises had a spectacular opening, but unlike many prerelease predictions it did not came even close to the record Marvel The Avengers set in May. The last chapter in the Chris Nolan Batman trilogy grossed $160.8 million, barely two million more than its predecesor, to grab the third highest weekend opening ever. But if you take the adjusted for inflation number and the price of the tickets for the many IMAX screens it is playing, this film has made less that THE DARK KNIGHT and has sold less tickets too. Did the Colorado shootings affected its box office? Barely. All the people who wanted to watched it the first weekend did so and those that usually wait for the second week with less longer lines will probably still will watch it. In fact when tragedies happen it creates morbid curiosity among the regular population that probably wasn't planning to watch the film and eventually helps the box office of such film. Still is too early to know if it will reach the final numbers of The Dark Knight, but it is still a blockbuster hit that most likely will recoup its $260 million budget in the following weeks.

The rest of the top ten films were basically the same ones from last week in the same order, except for the #1 spot taken by The Dark Knight Rises. No other new releases this week (no studio dare to compete with Batman thie weekend). Ice Age: Continental Drift took $20 million a nd The Amazing Spiderman added $10 million to its arcade (btw it will go down as the lowest grossing Spiderman film to date). TED also took $10 million in the fourth spot and Disney's Brave added $6 million to its Pixar track with $208 million.

 

Doesn't matter.

It's about 6 million times better than the shitty ass Avengers.

Avengers has a 92% Rotten Tomatoes rating vs 86% for DKR.

Avengers was as high as 96% at this same stage.

Therefore calling it "shitty ass" is just not realistic considering that 92% of the film critics liked it.

I don't get why you think you have the authority of films and actors to be so absolute (and condemnatory) in your analysis. I mean, who the fuck are you?

Just because Avengers is "lighter" and "broader" in appeal, doesn't mean that it's an inferior film. Avengers handled the superhero ensemble expertly, had a good story, decent acting blah blah blah. Sure it was a bit comical at times, whereas DKR is all serious and artsy fartsy...but Avengers was motherfucking good and the critics agree with me for the most part.
