I wonder why anyone would pick differently when dealing with a guy (Trinidad) who had trouble with mobile guys with good jabs

Starling (who was a vastly more skilled fighter than Antonio Tarver) wins by unanimous decision

Starling wins, but Tito is always one good left hook or right hand away from having an opponent in trouble. I can also see Starling outboxing him for 9 rounds and Tito catching him with something devastating.

I think it all depends on which Starling shows up. Marlon could show and be very into the fight and absolutely torture Trinidad with his defense.

Or the Magic Man could show up disinterested and display very little offense on his way to a close MD win or loss.

Starling was one of my favorite fighters. The way he dismantled and ridiculed Honeyghan remains one of my top 5 boxing moments ever. But the dude could also frustrate the hell out his fans with nonchalant performances and stagnant offense.

I always thought at times that Starling just fell in love with being the perfect defensive fighter and forgot he had to land shots to win.

    agreed

I don't envision any scenario where Trinidad KOs Starling

How about hitting him after the bell?

    :giggle:

Starling's exchange with Merchant after Molinares knocked him out:

Starling: Larry, do I look knocked out?
Merchant: Well, you only have to be out for 10 seconds.

Starling had no idea how the fight ended. He claimed he went down from twisting his leg and had zero recollection of the punch.

True. Afterall, past prime Sweet Pea did go 12 with Tito.

If Trinidad wins, I think it would absolutely be because he OUTWORKED Starling, who did have a tendency to posture and pose alot (1st fight with Curry).

I don't know if it was so much "disinterest" more so than it was OVER CONFIDENCE on Starling's part that would make him do that.

trinidad was past his welterweight prime when he fought whitaker. a younger trinidad stands a better chance of winning than that version.

I think the fact that Whitaker was an old, tired crackhead at that point more than mitigates against any decline in Trinidad by that point

    Another convenient use of "prime"

Yep. I think the outcome of this fight depends mostly on Starling's approach to it. If he is focused and on his game, it's his fight. If he spends more time posing and clowning than fighting, then he could lose.

  16. Gotta go with Starling in this one. He could very well "Winky Wright" Trinidad

^^^I don't know if he would beat him the way Winky did, though.

Wright was a bigger man than Trinidad, and he was able to push him back and physically dominate him inside.

Not sure Starling would be capable of doing THAT.

I think he'd win by making Tito miss and counter him(Assuming he's taking the fight seriously).
