Well I have an extended family and they wanted somebody to spend the nights here and the job was nearby so, you know, my sister has a 2 year old kid, they wanted help, you know, its the done thing. 2. The Olympics should be about the best amateur athletes in the world, not the best athletes. Of course, once the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">USA</st1lace></st1:country-region> could no longer win basketball with their college players things had to change and did and other sports followed suit. Nobody gives a shit if a guy earning $100,000/year participates. But a guy earning $1,000,000/year is a pro.<o></o>

We have 100+ years of pro athletes not competing in the olympics and maybe 20 years or so where they have.

In most sports, it's pretty easy to determine who is an amateur and who is not. And figuring out the gray area is what the olympic committee is for. How hard people train is irrelevant.

3. Boxing fans should not want the olympics to include pros. Most of the very best would not participate and it would be nothing more than glorified Prizefighter and mean nothing.

I was speaking specifically about boxing. Amateur boxing is similar enough to pro boxing that pros shouldn't be allowed.

I don't want pros in baseball, basketball, or any other sport that has pro leagues. Do I give a shit about a pro curling league where some guys might make $100,000/year? No.

Should a pro athlete be able to compete at the olympics in a different sport than the one he is a pro in? Yes. Hershell Walker comes to mind.

 

So what would be your solution: throw Usain Bolt and ALL OTHER track-and-field stars out of games or stop paying them, which would move all the athletic talent to other sports?

Olympic athletes have trained professionally for almost 100 years, only thing that has changes is how they have gotten paid

 

I think the only logic to use, is whether the Olympic Gold is the pinnacle of that sport. In boxing, a world title is more meaningful than an Olympic title and so since should disqualify the professionals of that sport.

 

Turkish fighter took a knee vs a Thai boxer on a bodyshot. The Thai gave him another count in the next round off a body-shot-head-shot combo. First counts I've seen in the tournament, albeit that the knockdown was a delayed-reaction sort of thing, like so many bodyshots.
