This awesome tv series debuted in 1966 and ran for only one season (26 episodes). Like The Green Hornet it was one of the first Hollywood productions to showcase real martial arts fights instead of those silly judo chops. The plot is about this guy, Thomas Hewitt Edward Cat (Robert Loggia), a former circus acrobat, former cat burglar specializing in stealing diamonds and now a bodyguard at La Casa Del Gato (the Cat's House)who fights crime as a way to redeeming himself. The action scenes were extremely cool for tv at that time and the whole concept was ahead of its time. The only show that came decades later similar to it was The Equalizer. Even Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon owe a thing or two to this show as you can see in the opening credits. T.H.E. Cat used two weapons only as needed (gun & knife) since he was a hand to hand combat expert. He was neither a cop nor a criminal. I loved this show as a child and think the character is still cool enough to merit a remake either as a movie or tv series.

For its time, yeah. The Green Hornet also ran for just one season. Many good tv series have ran for only one season (like "Police Squad!" which later was turned into three successful big screen movies titled The Naked Gun).

Yep. Some of the scenes from the Police Squad tv show were put into the films.

When you said 'except' it implies you have watched "T.H.E. Cat" too, right?

    sufficient evidence for indictment

For example, would you really need to see a full episode of this to know it was a ridiculous show:

Rod Perry's credit is the best. Hilariously stupid.

Damn, that S.W.A.T. opening seemed a hell of a lot cooler when I was 11.

    HAHA

I watched it in syndication when I was little and it seemed completely badass at the time... looks utterly ridiculous now

What I love about that show is that it violated essentially every police misconduct law on the books... basically it was the SWAT guys beating the shit out of or shooting everyone in sight on a whim
