Mitchell could punch if nothing else, was a nice little shot on the inside but I don't think he was that hurt by it. The Hopkins and Salem knockdowns were balance knockdowns (Anyone can go down if theyre caught in the wrong position, it isnt a reflection on their chin) and we've discussed the RJJ KD. I've only seen him genuinely hurt once in his whole career, and he recovered very quickly.
We can agree to disagree. I didn't think the shot warranted Joe going down. Certainly shouldn't have been that hurt by it especially when you watch it in real time.
Those guys could both punch, if nothing else... Byron Mitchell was a garbage man and an average puncher ... Hopkins wasn't even a real hitter at Middleweight in his prime... Roy Jones was shot to shit and hasn't knocked out a living person in more than 10 years...
What's funny is early in the round Lampley says something about Roy not knocking out an opponent in six and a half years. Two minutes later Calzaghe goes down.
See my post above, I don't think he was hurt in any of those knockdowns with the exception of RJJ, which was a freak forearm smash.
He'd have been a lot more hurt if that had been a 29 year old Roy Jones punching him instead of a 39 year old, washed-up has-been That's probably the 3rd best win of the Jazzerciser's career The best is a slap-avalanche split decision over the most negative, cynical, turtle-pacer in decades
Again, find a post where I said Calzaghe beats a prime RJJ :dunno: The Hopkins win was pretty clear, regardless of Adelaide Byrds inability to score a fight, in a negative snoozefest which transpired because only one guy was trying to fight. I kind of wish Calzaghe had a blown up one-dimensional Puerto Rican hype machine to beat up on because apparently that makes you an all time great.
:laugh11: hilarious I don't think Hut and I could have presented a better argument against Calzaghe than that SLAP AVALANCHE BEMUSEMENT
You guys are the ones propping him up as a great fighter If he's a great fighter, then the idea of him beating another great fighter in his prime, or at the very least being really competitive shouldn't be so laughable Yet it always is
Calzaghe would've been dominated and stopped by either a prime RJJ or a prime Hopkins. But I don't see any way any version of Froch beats any version of Calzaghe.
I think Slappy Dappy Doo would outslap Froch to a 7-5 decision It would be the second best win of his career, after the one in which he got off the deck and managed to shoeshine an over 40, defensive-minded counterpuncher with the punch output of an arm-less man in a coma
Hut deserves an award for that It is the perfect description of Calzaghe's wins, especially the "KO" variety
If you adjust the contrast on your monitor it looks very much the same as a Julian Jackson highlight video.
I've said nothing of the sort, I've said he's on the same level as Hopkins. If Hopkins is a great fighter in your mind then so is Joe.
I'm sorry, Joe is not a great fighter. Let me correct that, perhaps a great Welsh fighter but that's about it. His resume has a ton of holes in it. I'd say the win over Kessler is his best win. As much as I dislike Hopkins, it does him a disservice to place Joe on the same level as him.
Based on what exactly? Hopkins has the most overrated resume of the past 20 years. I've never said Calzaghe has this amazing CV or anything, he doesn't, it's 90% garbage, but guess what? Hopkins is barely any better, if at all. They both dominated shit divisions for about a decade.
You think Kessler's career is on the same level as Tarver? Certainly you can't believe that. Mind you, I'm no Hopkins fan. I'm years deep in serious dislike for the guy. But to mention him and Calzaghe in the same sentence, in my opinion, is wrong.
Hopkins is unquestionably better and greater than Calzaghe. A prime version dominates him, probably looks similar to Hopkins' fight with Glen Johnson in '97.
Refresh my memory on when Calzaghe moved up two divisions to fight a guy as good as Tarver. Actually, refresh my memory as to when Calzaghe fought a guy as good as Tarver period.
Tarver really wasn't all that, he had a great win, probably the best win of the last 30 years but in retrospect all he did was expose Jones as being shot. He wasn't considered anything special prior to that, and hardly set the world alight afterwards. Still though, it was a great win for Bernard and I won't take anything away from him for that win. So take Tarver off his resume and what are you left with?
