He wouldn't even trouble Marquez. Marquez is too much of a sharp shooter, and hits hard. I can't believe the way some of you still overrate this guy :: Some of you are forgetting how small he was too. He looked like a big featherweight basically, a 130 pounder. He was soft at lightweight, more so than Marquez. So yeah coming to think of it I can't see him beating someone like Lucas. Actually I guess it doesn't surprise me that Joony is the one that overrates him like crazy, he's a maxboxing reader, and it was maxboxing that hyped him to absurd degrees.
hmm, marquez was troubled by the likes of juan diaz and michael katsidis at lightweight. i guess it depends on whether or not you think those aforementioned were better than valero.
They're bigger than Valero, that's for sure. At most Valero hurts Marquez once or twice when Marquez gets careless, at which point Marquez recovers as per usual and beats the crap out of him. Valero simply lacked the skill to compete with someone like Marquez.
Marquez would pick apart Valero with ease. It would be a completely one sided fight. According to Doug Fischer, Valero regressed severely after losing his license to fight in the US and going to Japan. I don't know how good he was before that. Fischer was very high on him, but then Fischer is kind of a tool.
Hahaha, yeah pretty much. I am not sure about Valero regressing or not, all I know is Fischer IS a tool, and I first saw Valero in one of his Japanese fights, and I had to sort of rub my eyes to check I was seeing things properly, to see if this sloppy, amateurish, 130 pound version of Mayorga was really the guy people were picking to beat Pacquiao ::
it wasnt just fischer touting valero. everyone around here who knows the game and saw the kid in the gym was saying he was a killer.
People like Fischer make me sick. Any exotic pug with a bit of "previous", they are going to fall all over him. Anybody with a brain in their head could tell that Valero was a fucking psycho right from day one. Fischer is the same bum who basically commended Don King for his behaviour in the Lewis/Rahman debacle.
Nope, he hasn't, because I emailed the bum back in the day, him and his bum-chum Steve Kim, and the replies I got were less than charming when it came to the K's, I can assure you. Fischer was one of the key movers in the "Posion on the Gloves" BS that was doing the rounds after, shock-horror, Byrds eyes swelled from numerous jabs.
well then he became a huge vitali klitschko supporter. always sticking up for the guy. but at least now we can see where your scorn stems from
seems like fischer got on the vitali bandwagon when he saw vitali training in california prior to his fight vs. lewis.
So basically it seems like Scrub Fischer is impressed with how people look in training, rather than in actual fights.
He was a complete cunt and a desipcable sham of a man. There have been some in boxing. Spadafora is one of them. A guy Spadafora beat, Dezi Ford, was jailed for basically beating his infant child to death in what he claimed was an accidental killing, and that he was sparring with the kid. Seems pretty dumb at the least. Valero was a known brutalizer of his wife long before he finally killed her and these journos play along.
Valero was a killa. Underrated defensive fighter and underrated boxer who was HARD. He woulda been like a modern day Duran
No. He woulda been like a modern day Valero. Valero couldn't even stop his wife with his bare hands. Needed a knife. Pussy.
Let's get over the naive fairytale idea that because a man abuses or kills a woman, he must be a pussy. Guys like Valero and Monzon were legitimately very hard men. If you are willing to go less extreme than killing, it seems like most fighters beat the shit out of their women. Despicable and deplorable? Yeah. Indicative of them being cowards or pussies? No. If someone like you pissed them off, they'd do the same thing without thinking twice about it. edit: From what I saw he was NOTHING like a modern day Duran. Maybe before he left the US when as Neil said everyone thought he was a killer in the gym, but I doubt it
No, they would try to beat me down with their fists and would leave it at that. I am pretty sure I could call Monzon a pinchie indio and a broken jaw is all that would result. Women bring out the killer in these guys, and that's why they are pussies, to me at least.
I thought Valero was crazily overrated. He had power and there was an exciting element there because of his style, which was very go-for-broke. However, There were a lot of exploitable flaws there... I can certainly see him knocking down Marquez, for example, but I also JMM get up, regroup and gradually pick him apart Bradley is too big Matthyse, as well The rest are pick-ems, I think in my mind, only if you assume Valero can be as effective fighting at a higher weight Again, though, some of those guys are considerably bigger than Valero... even Khan, as flawed and chinny as he is, appears much bigger than Valero and his speed is considerable, especially early... When did Valero ever deal with anyone like that?
If the woman had randomly met them once and called them a pinche indio, they would've likely just suffered a broken jaw too.
I can't see Valero, at least not the version I saw, doing shit with Marquez except getting countered with heavy leather and embarrassed.
I don't know Marquez has been rushed and hurt by basically every aggressive LW he ever fought... If a scrub like Katsidis can get to him early, I don't see why Valero couldn't As the fight progresses, I agree that Marquez chops him up
Good point I guess. Valero had a fair bit of size on Marquez as well. But in the end, the result would be the same.
He didn't. I actually think Marquez is the bigger of the 2. Marquez looked bigger than every single opponent he fought at featherweight, I think he's always looked more like a 130 pounder. They were the same height - 5'7, but Marquez is bulkier and stockier, bigger arms and shoulders. Valero looked soft and undersized at 135.
BTW the idea of him being a modern day Duran :atu: Most retarded thing I've read for a while. He was a "modern day", smaller version of Mayorga.
He could hit Andrew, not fight. There is a big difference between the two. Valero couldn't fight a lick.
There was a point when people were actually comparing Mayorga to Duran. I recall Duran himself thinking it was comical.
