Should've finish the book before going to see the movie. I only read up to were she is trap in the tree, and the 3-4 careers and Peete are waiting her out...and she cuts off the tree ranch w/ the wasp nest...killing the two female tributes...

If i kept reading I would have ran into the part were it turns into god damn Twilight.....

I like the first half.....second half was blah...the killing were blah...

I am reading the book now; have about 75 pages left and am enjoying it quite a bit. I will definitely pick up the 2nd book.

The film won the #1 spot at the box office again for the third consecutive week with $33 million. It has grossed more than $300 domestically. Interesting that overseas it hasn't performed as well as in USA. Will this coming weekend The Three Stooges beat The Hunger Games?

I read the book since I am pretty sure my students will be giving me lots of presentations of it in the future (as they can watch the film and not actually read)

I thought it was pretty entertaining, though obviously it was directed to younger people. There was a glimpse of a point in the book, as the reader can realize that he gets excited about the killing game too, but mostly it is fast-paced and simply-written action with cheesy emotional parts included. However, it was quick read and there were some almost creative twists in the story (the wasp nest solution was cool one).

I may watch this later on so that I can find out what is different from the book and bust the cheating students

Its four week reign at the box office ended this weekend when "Think Like A Man" became the sleeper hit of the season and grossed $33 million. "Hunger Games" is still enroute to finish its domestic run with close to $400 million at this pace. internationally it hasn't fared that well.

the movie is ok  entertaining

though it would have made more sense if they added a few minutes footage showing the tv ratings of it and that side of things

I watched it last night, its certainly entertaining. Some parts like all movies was a bit far fetched. I won't give away any spoilers though.

After watching John Carter for some reason I thought this movie would be more of the same (shite) however I was pleasantly surprised, very entertaining

nothing wrong with that - two great movies.

No doubt, but here's the rub, The Running Man wasn't really that well received by critics and The Hunger Games was, in my opinion, because it was based on some best selling books. Both are good movies to me, but just goes to show how uppity critics can be swayed. Not to mention Arnold was typecast into nothing but action movies and had already done so many that I'm sure critics thought, oh lovely, another Arnie action movie...

They have some similar themes but the books are not that much alike. I haven't seen Hunger Games movie yet but it can't be more juvenile than Running Man

Very similar in concept. Acting is better in Hunger Games.

I guess it was cool to hate on Arnie at the time. The running man was excellent at the time and still pretty good 20 years? later

They are quite similar but I guess with modern effects the hungers games is able to pull off that cool futuristic look..

Hey if Arnold's movies were so bad back then, why his Hollywood remaking them today? That's the way I see it. I haven't seen the new Total Recall, its certainly going to be HARD for it to beat the original to me, even with new CGI, but it will always lack the charisma Arnold brought back then. Wouldn't surprise me if they don't try to remake more of his movies eventually.

The Running Man movie was pretty lame compared to the book. I think Hunger Games is the better story, though. Hunger Games movie was a great adaptation of the book so about the only advantage The Running Man has is that it was more original.

And Arnold is more interesting than Peeta.

The reason The Running Man wasn't well received by critics was because it was basically a more violent DEATH RACE 2000. Hardly original. Hunger Games is closer to Battle Royale IMO.
