I think Hatton has a good chance of eking out a decision.

I like him outside the ring, he's funny as hell. Just hated watching him fight.

Hatton didn't fight like an amateur. Slice hates guys like that.

I was thinking, why wouldn't you like pre-Tszyu Hatton?

He had a pretty crisp, energetic attacking style, decent infighting, very good bodypunching etc. What's not to like?

Hatton was an excellent fighter. Fast feet, attacking, aggressive and a vicious body puncher. Shots thrown with hurt, strong inside and tough to break down. Definitely not Slice's type of fighter.

loaded and cdogg, have you actually seen any pre Tszyu Hatton fights?

I've seen most of his pro fights, and he didn't used to be a mauler. He used to be a pretty crisp, clean attacking fighter with very fast feet and a lot of focus on bodypunching. He wasn't boring, and he didn't hold much.

There was a pretty dramatic change in the Tszyu fight and thereafter when he realised the effectiveness of holding and grappling a lot.

Hatton was good, don't get me wrong, but he was boring. The only fight I enjoyed of his was the one against Magee, which is probably the fight he realised he had to hold to compete at world level otherwise he was getting fucked up. There's no point bringing up the years he wasn't holding as these were spent dispatching the likes of Jason Rowlands and Stephen Smith, who gives a fuck?

Some fights did get messy, but that happens with all fighters. As a rule, it didn't bother me. He wasn't clinching, he was looking for openings for shots. Since there usually wasnt a break in the fight, no problem for Hut.

Hatton didn't hit and hold, he held and hit. An old fashioned, inside fighter; strong, dirty, tough, body-punching type of guy. I'd rather watch that than watch Amir stumble around blindly, imploring the referee to break up 'the action' every time he is within a foot of an opponent.

Yeah, the refs the key. If you're holding/head pushing/forearm pushing, & waiting for the ref to break the action & rescue you - you suck. If there's no break in the fight it's all koo' to me.

Hatton was doing what Duran got Knighted for, just minus the lacing and profanity.

That's nice and all but my point still stands that he was horrible to watch when he reached world level, and he was clearly a few notches above the British level guys he was beating cleanly which renders this "he never used to hold back in the day" line pointless.

He got tangled up plenty and worked his way out, unless either the other guy grabbed him or a shite ref like Cortez instantly jumped in. He only initiated clinches when he was hurt or exhausted, like every other fighter.

We'll have to agree to disagree, I think he used clinching as part of his fight plan when he got to the top of the tree. Regardless, it was horrible to watch.

Nah, Hatton was a notorious clincher. Maybe he didn't hold out of cowardice like wald pussy, but his fights were just as unwatchable, and it doesn't change the fact that what he did (with the assistance of his hometown ref) was illegal as hell.
