...that the three most active threads here this past week have been: 1. Hatton coming out of his retirement {home} 2. Floyd and his money lego 3. Derailing Defeats From The Mists of Time. Oh and what is with this fucking drunken Irish shit?----------->:drl: Well here is another Irish stereotype for you :bomb:
Was it 1997/1998 the year that was really shit? I think it was. It was the year Gatti lost twice to Robinson but still made it into the top 5 fighters of Boxing Monthly for that year ::
Probably the main reason we've had so many fewds around here. Ward/Dawson should be awful but I need something that at least matters a little bit.
Boxing sucks. Even MMA is starting to really suck now with the oversaturation of events. Good thing the world is ending this year.
We won't ever have the kind of fight hype and post fight wars as we had a decade back. Trinidad/Vargas, Lewis/Tyson, Trinidad/Hopkins, De La Hoya/Mosley, etc. All these guys got old and retired and no new guys came along at all. I wonder why no new guys are coming into boxing anymore. It's still by far the highest paying sport in history. The only sport where a fighter can make up to $40 million in a single night. You'd think kids would be ultra motivated to get into boxing and chase the potential tens of millions of dollars in paydays.
Only one guy in a million makes it to that level. Much easier to go into the NBA or NFL. Mayweather/Pacquiao is still a huge, huge fight that can generate attention and $$ the way no other fight has in the history of the sport.
Yeah boxing's the most capitalist sport there is. About 5 guys make about a third the money in the whole sport, another 30 or so take another third and the other 99% of fighters around the world live on crumbs. Team sports give you a much better chance of making a living (disclaimer: every number there is pulled out my ass)
It Likely WON'T Be FAN FRIENDLY, yet it's Undeniably IMPORTANT...The BEST Supermiddle in the World is Facing the BEST Lightheavy in the World... Dawson's the 1 that PURSUED the Fight, which Gives REED a SLIVER of Hope that We'll See a PASSIONATE Performance Out of Him...On the Flipside, Ward Could've Very Easily MILKED his Super 6 Laurels, but Instead he's ACCEPTED the Challenge of a High Risk, Low Reward, Bigger, Taller, Stronger Opponent, Who's in his PRIME... INTRIGUING Matchup, for Certain... REED:hammert:
It's a great match up. Unfortunately it's guaranteed to be a God awful fight Still, I'll stay up for it, Im actually quite looking forward to it
agREED... By his OWN Admission, Dawson Makes 175 EASILY...He Wanted a Catchweight of 170, but Ward Wanted it @ 168 & Since he's GIVING AWAY Height, Reach & Strength, REED Doesn't Blame him... REED:mj:
It really is. Ward's fat, throbbing, uninhibited downie chode is going to be too damn much for the soulless plank of wood that is Doorson.
For the sake of 2lb, I think it benefits everyone to have the undisputed title on the line rather than another 'catchweight' fiasco. Is Dawson's title on the line too,ala Leonard-Lalonde?
I think part of this is also due to the tough critics boxing fans and message boarders have become. This new "conditioning" has led to fights that would've/could've been hyped looking rather drab.......everyone's an expert and not as easily interested or fooled, so to speak.
