On 1 Hand, Henderson SHOULDN'T Give a Flying Fuck that Bones is Catching ALL the Heat for UFC 151 Falling Apart....On the Other, U'd THINK he'd Come Out & Say SOMETHING, to Ease Some of the Ass Chewing Jones is Taking from Fans, Media, etc... REED:mj:
the only reason why this event was canceled was because it was a garbage card without the main event. jones is on his way to be a superstar (if he already isn't) so i doubt he's threatened by all this shit he's getting from dana and ufc. it is of my opinion that i think he should've taken the fight vs. sonnen because i think he would've won easily, but at the same time, i dont understand what really went behind the scenes and if he was treated like he was somewhat forced to take the fight, then it's understandable that he opted not to fight. it's UFC and dana white who pulled the plug on this card, not jon jones.
Jones did do the professional thing, objectively. However to argue on the flipside, if Sonnen was prepared to scrap at 8 days notice, why not Jones? And the biggest thing for me, is it would be a downright easy fight. All Bader has is wrestling, and Jones molested him in 1 sided fashion. Sonnen is a good wrestler, but that's it. And really, what's he going to do against Jones? Jones is much bigger, and better in every way. I think for the sake of saving the event, and a lot of fighter's paydays etc, I would have taken the fight, in what is essentially a gimme.
I think if Jones took this fight and beat the dog shit out of Sonnen like most know he would, he would have gained alot of fans. Tito gained a lot of fans by stepping in for Machida on short notice.
Except for Sonnen has been in camp with Henderson, who knew he was injured over 3 weeks ago. You think Sonnen was sitting on the couch getting fat or getting ready to step in for the past 3 weeks? They would love to have everyone believe he was fat and sitting on the couch but he wasn't.
good point. maybe jones was aware of that and thought sonnen was being sneaky. plus all that shit talk probably didnt help. rather than kicking his ass, jones probably thought he wins by not giving him a title shot.
I can't prove this of course ,but Sonnen was in camp with Hendo and Hendo knew he was injured at least 3 weeks ago. All signs point to Sonnen having a sneaky 3 week camp. Look at when Sonnen started talking shit to Jon Jones. About the time Dan knew he was hurt.
Maybe Jon Jones didn't take it because he had trouble making weight :dunno: What does Bones usually walk around at?
I get so sick of everything becoming "You believe everything Dana White says." I personally give zero impact to White's comments or thoughts on this subject. My opinion is my opinion. And I'll say it one more time. No matter how you slice it, Jones is becoming a diva. First, Jones said (NOT DANA FUCKING WHITE) that he doesn't want to fight Machida again because it's high risk/low reward. Well guess what? I PERSONALLY think that's a shitty attitude for a fighter. Second, Jones turns down a fight with Sonnen. Again, I don't give a shit what Dana White says about it. BUT PERSONALLY, I think it bullshit that a UFC Champion turns down any fight on a scheduled date in his weight class. Lastly, he has no problem fighting Vitor Belfort who hasn't won a lightheavy fight in the UFC since 2004. So keep all the stupid slave-UFC-Dana White bullshit out of it, and I still think Jones is becoming a diva based solely on what JONES has said not ANYONE else. Again this doesn't have the slightest thing to do with Dana White, the UFC payscale, or any other spin doctor bullshit. It's the action and words of Jon Jones HIMSELF that bother me.
Reed, I realize this is tough for you, so again I'll boil it down to one sentence. Greg Jackson is making peanuts if HIS fighters aren't employed by the UFC. But I'll take it step further to blow your analogy out of the water. Do you pay your lawn guy a percentage of your salary? Does he make more if you make more? Does his pay for mowing your yard go up if you get a raise? Hell no. He doesn't care who you work for or how much you make as long as you pay him $50 a month to mow your dirt. (Texas joke not a Reed's home joke). If you don't think Greg Jackson's income improves when his fighter's income improve, then I just can't explain it any more.
Yep, but according to Reed and Mike, they are all just following Dana's instructions. :hail 1: Apparently the only UFC fans or fighters that have their own opinion are Reed and Mike.
What did Chiesa say? BTW I think Jones might be the best MMA fighter in the world today, P4P, but just imagine how much it would suck if his newfound "high risk/low reward" attitude snowballed and he became the Floyd of MMA :jaw:
Yep. The funny thing is that what a fighter does can really affect his fan support. For example, I used to absolutely loathe Michael Bisping. Watching Henderson knock him out is one of my favorite all time MMA moments. But watching the guy fight Sonnen on short notice and following his career wherein he would fight absolutely anyone the UFC asked him to fight has won me over. The dude has 12 UFC wins but has never had a title shot and you hear little complaining out of him when the UFC matches him against guys like Riviera or Jason Miller that really don't put him closer to a title shot. Essentially the guy is just a fighter, plain and simple. I am now a fan and, again, not because Dana says so, but because I am a fan of that kind of attitude.
Yeah, so he basically fights on even terms with Sonnen (at the least) and Sonnen got a title shot while Bisping got a fight with Hector Lombard. The Lombard fight didn't happen because Bisping got hurt. So now Bisping get Brian Stann. And no complaints. If Bisping was champion, he'd fight Godzilla on 24 hours notice.......In Tokyo.
Michael Chiesa @MikeMav22 @jonnybones is a fraud. He's all about his $$ but he won't take a fight with @sonnench who would bring in WAY more $$? He's scared, period. Michael Chiesa @MikeMav22 99.999% of @UFC fighters will be "company men" and help our organization if needed. @sonnench is a company man, @jonnybones is selfish. Michael Chiesa @MikeMav22 If I could put on the weight, I'd give @jonnybones the business and come home Sept. 2nd to Spokane, WA with a win.
Nik Lentz Ufc mma @NikLentz Give me a full training camp and replace my opponent with a 135 pound guy and give him 8 days to train....sign me up!!!!!! #UFC151
Most of the tweets about Jones are laughable. The only one I really liked was Bisping's. It was just a fact. And that's Bisping who was training to fight Maia, which is a far different opponent, stylistically, than Sonnen. So, in other words, Bisping was willing to swap from Maia to Sonnen on 8 days notice AT Sonnen's natural weight class, but Jones wouldn't do it with Sonnen coming up 20 pounds. As a fan, that makes me like Bisping a little more and Jones a little less. 'Just sayin'
He's grown on me too. I hated him through the Henderson fight, but I started liking him more after seeing him a few times on Inside MMA. He seems like a funny and friendly guy when he's talking with guys like Bas Rutten. I respect him more as a fighter now too. He pissed me off when he ran for 3 rounds against Leben, but he's beaten some tough fighters since then. He would have zero chance against Anderson or Jon Jones, but he's a legit top fighter who's willing to fight anyone out there. I think he beat Sonnen too. Then again I thought he lost the fights with Leben and Hamill. Judges are unpredictable.
I think he'll be heavyweight champ someday when he decides to move up in weight. I just don't want to see him fight JDS now. I doubt that fight would go 5 rounds, and I hate seeing one of my favorite fighters get submitted or ktfo. I don't know who I'd pick if they fought today.
