So it looks like Martinez/Chavez Jr really is happening

I'm right there with you. Martinez hasn't been looking very good against the guys he's fought recently. Andy Lee is probably as good as the last two guys Martinez fought and Chavez looked far more impressive in that fight than Martinez has looked in a while.

    It's a pick em IMO

Chavez Jr is still crap. If he wins this fight it says more about Martinez than it does about Chavez.

Nuh uh! Sergio is p4p son!

I do like Martinez, but I feel he's been vastly overrated for a while now.

I believe this will be the case, win or lose... If Martinez wins, he will not win easily, IMO ... If Chavez jr. is as bad as most seem to think, it should go a long way toward convincing people that Martinez is overrated as fuck

Honestly if Chavez wins it's because he's considerably bigger. Martinez is a small middleweight, and Chavez is a huge one.

I'm gonna pick Chavez, mainly as a protest at Martinez being anywhere near the top of a p4p list.

    Chavez SD 12

It must be a bit nervewracking to live up to media scrutiny and simply general public scrutiny when you're a boxer who is also the son of one of the greatest Mexican boxers of all-time. Martinez seems a bit insecure (or maybe he's stupid and trying to play mind games), pointing to Jr's lineage and asking him when he's going be his own man. When your name is Jr, you're always going to be compared to your dad, and his dad was a truly great fighter.

I hope the kid does ok. I think Martinez is going to make him work like never before, and the spotlight's glare must be intense for a kid with a legend for a father. My guess is Chavez Jr takes a pounding and wilts mid-to-late rounds.

Chavez will have a huge size advantage. Thing is though, I don't recall Chavez yet facing anyone with real speed, let alone Martinez's.

I seem to recall you were fairly high on Martinez a while back, you've been too influenced by cdogg's relentless Martinez detracting.

I honestly think right now, Martinez is a better fighter than Donaire - who I expect to be beaten by Nishioka San.

Martinez's style aint pretty, and he can look vulnerable, but he can fight.

This Chavez thing might yet be the death of boxing. It's obvious what's going on.

When everyone on here was bashing Chavez Jr. I was praising him. I will finally demand satisfaction when this fight is over.

I always said Chavez was better than people gave him credit for back before he fought Duddy. However, "better than people give him credit for" still does not mean "quality." He just isn't very good.

Nobody really knew how good or bad Chavez was because it took him about a million fights to fight anyone with a pulse. He's definitely better than I had though.

in fairness, I think this is somewhat offset by Sergio Martinez being the least impressive "P4P" candidate I have ever seen in my lifetime

By P4P candidate, do you mean P4P #1?

I don't think anyone who has half a clue about boxing thinks he's better than Pacquiao or Floyd.

please. I was right here getting bashed by the likes of Mitchell Kane for calling the kid a beast. that was like 3 years ago. Dont make me

He isn't a beast. He's a shitty fighter. If he were a "beast," he wouldn't need furosemide to cut down to 160. He'd be at 168 fighting Andre Ward. As it is, that idea sounds laughable because we both know Ward would shit on his chest and make his dad rub it in.
