I don't want to get in the way of a man making his living but don't they check for Down Syndrome as part of the pre fight physicals? Is Ward from Mississippi where the standards are a wee bit more liberal in that regard?
:: I totally agree. I'm convinced Ward is at least half down syndrome. I think it gives him an unfair advantage.
True that. Looks more like 1.5 inches compared to the 3 inch presser difference. Goes to show what potentially different camera angles, footwear etc can do. I guess we'll see in the ring. Doorson might not have as big a size advantage as you think. In those shitty weigh in pics, Ward is clearly the thicker/wider of the 2.
The more I think about that, the more I laugh :laugh11: Like "Down's Syndrome" is an ethnicity or something... hysterically funny idea
He ain't no 5'10. I'm a legit 5'10, and I can easily tell that Ward is taller than me. 5'11-6'0 is more like it.
I just watched the weigh-in vid. Dawson looks to be in great shape. Doesn't look drained at all. It's a crime how much Chad is being written off tomorrow. I think this is gonna be a MUCH more competitive fight than many are expecting. If Dawson utilizes his jab, and works Ward's body early and often (he's a very underrated body puncher) than I think he has a very good chance of pulling the upset.
Dawson has the physical talent to make it a very close fight, his speed and reach might be just the ways to bother a wrestler like Ward. However, it is likely Chad will give another lackluster performance and lets Ward walko to a 117-111 victory
Such an outcome wouldn't be shocking to me. If ANYBODY's getting stopped, it'll be Ward. Chad has ALL the tools in the world to putting a hurting on Ward. The only thing that's in his question is his fire. For the record though, I AM picking Ward tonight. Hard to see Chad getting a decision in Oakland, if the fight is close at all. Quite honestly, I think Ward will win a decision in a fight where at the end we all say Chad could have won if he had let his hands go more. Like I previously said, if Ward DOMINATES this fight, he becomes my P4P #1.
But that's the story of Doorson's career. He doesn't let his hands go because he's a soulless plank of wood. It's like saying "Ortiz would have won if only he wasn't a mental case and a gutless swine". Well, yeah, of course - but that's who he is.
When the Hell did I say he's a warrior? He does have heart however. He showed it against Adamek, and in the first Johnson fight. Comparing him to Ortiz is absolutely absurd, and proves that Dawson is the most underrated/disrespected fighter on this forum. If he beats Ward tonight, MANY of yall will be eating a lot of crow.
There is a sort of bare minimum of "heart" that is essentially expected from world class fighters... Usually if people make a point of lauding the heart of such a fighter, it is because they have exceeded that expectation. Dawson hasn't. The comparison to Ortiz was not a direct one, rather a comparison of how the factors of a fighter's makeup weigh heavily on what we can expect from the fighter. Ortiz's meltdown tendencies are as integral a part of who he is as a fighter as Dawson's inability/unwillingness to follow up is an integral part of him. That's the point. He's not going to beat Ward tonight
Jesus, bit touchy when it comes to Chad aren't you :laugh11: I'm not comparing them as fighters, but the analogy makes sense. Doorson is who he is, a soulless plank. He won't let his hands go, because he has no fighting spirit.
Thanks for clarifying cdogg, it seemed like an easy enough point to comprehend, not sure how Xplosive got the idea I was comparing them directly. I think he just has a massive hard-on for Doorson.
You never know, maybe this will be Dawson's equivalent of Ortiz' night against Berto, or Buster Douglas' in Tokyo.
Of course, that's one of the great things about boxing, you just never know until they fight. Incidentally, Buster Douglas > Doorson.
Motivated Douglas might have been more skilled than Dawson, but then again, Ward isn't as good as a prime Tyson. It's really not out the realm that Chad wins this fight. But like everybody else, I am picking Ward. UNLIKE everyone else though, I think it's far from a sure victory.
Dawson gets very little respect here. That's for sure. Him winning would give the euro contingent a collective aneurysm.
Just to further hedge my bets, I've always been pretty big on Dawson's 'talent', he has the physical tools of a p4per, every bit as much as Ward. So I'm not completely writing off a 'Tokyo' night, here. But then I also originally came up with the Audley Harisson comparison so that tells you I don't think the chances are too great. He'll settle for a competitive defeat
