I don't think anybody expected this. Ward looked absolutely UNTOUCHABLE in there. He'll never be the most exciting guy but as far as skills go, this guy is grade A. He's gonna be really hard to beat if he stays dedicated.
I think Chumpez Junior will beat Martinez, which will make Ward's case even more clear. Old man Floyd and Manny aren't as good as Ward at this point. Donaire is one of the most overrated fighters of recent times, and isn't nearly as good as Ward.
It helps that tonight's opponent is a dull shit who throws two power shots every 10 minutes P4P is bullshit, but if there was some 168 pound guy with Floyd Mayweather's skills and smarts, "SOG" wouldn't look quite so effective.
I wouldn't be so sure he's better than Floyd at this point. Even today's Floyd would also beat a gimp like Doorson who throws 3 punches a round, without breaking a sweat.
Skillwise Floyd is better than Ward, but PBF is not active enough to be considered pound 4 pound anymore, and Pacquiao has clearly declined. Martinez is in the top 4 IMO and assuming he teaches Chavez Jr the lesson I think he will, I would probably make him number 2, with Floyd and Manny coming in at 3 and 4 respectively.
Your prediction of Dawson-Ward was wrong and so is this one. Chumpez jr. will get a deserved beating, but Ward is clearly a better pound 4 pounder than Martinez.
Yup. Let's not overreact here; Ward is proving himself very decent but Dawson is a talented scatterbrain with no real fighting spirit about him. Hardly P4P No.1 material. MTF
Pretty much. Dawson was already damaged goods, that Pascal fight says a lot about him, not the loss per se, because Pascal had Froch going a few times, but the nature of the loss, more so. He's like Ortiz- he's got the physical tools but he's not actually a fighter.
You even think he's better than Floyd at this point? Floyd is a bit like Hopkins in that despite slowing down and being past prime, he's still highly effective due to being as skilled and crafty as ever. He would have clowned the likes of Doorson too, with ease. They are clearly the top 2 though i think in my mind. At this point I'm not even sure if Pacquiao is the 3rd best fighter in the world. He probably is though, thinking about it.
Floyd's Still "The BEST Fighter in the World, Pound for Pound", Per Se...Ward, Martinez & Pac are a Level just Below...We'll Know Where to Place Martinez this Time NEXT Week & Pac's Upcoming Fight will Be a MAKE or BREAK Bout, in Regards to his Own Pound for Pound Placement... REED:kidcool:
I actually think Ward is better than Floyd, today. Ward is bigger at his weight and younger. I don't think Floyd could have beaten somebody as competent as Dawson as emphatically as that.
If he had the exact same results around 2009-10 he'd still be a clear level below Mayweather and Pacquiao. He's only caught up because of Pacquiao's decline and Mayweathers aging (who he is still behind anyway)
Back in 2010 when Mayweather was coming off wins vs a fat Marquez and a 39 y/o Mosley? I think I'd probably still have Ward at number 1.
Martinez's problems with pedestrian challengers lately knocks him solidly out of the first tier of p4p guys, imo. I think Ward is the best fighter in the world right now, but Floyd and Pacq still have solid arguments.
DisagREED. I think Ward at this stage is better than Floyd. I have a harder time envisioning Ward losing at this point than I do Floyd. Beating Froch, and Dawson in their primes impresses me more than beating that surfing bum Ortiz, and a past primmed Cotto.
I think Wlad's win over Haye is a better win that Wards win over Dawson. And you can't say Wlad held, cos he didn't. opcorn: Is Dawson any better than Haye? Not a fucking chance.
I think Dawson is better than Haye, but Wlad is a p4p #1 level guy and I don't have any problems with people putting him at the top.
Adamek, Tarver, Johnson & Old Man Hops. How many of those does a heavyweight Haye beat, P4P? I'm not sure.
Adamek-drained. Tarver- old and shown-up by then. Johnson? Johnson? Dude is a perennial loser. Thats harsh, but thats what he is. He loses fights. Hopkins? Was even older than the version Joe Cal beat. Big names but dig a little deeper.
