I would say in the early UFC's wrestling was not known really yet as a dominant discipline. The early UFC's had a bunch of kung fu heroes and tae kwon do billy badasses. Dan Severn really put Wrestling on the map with mma. After Dan, motherfuckers started coming out in bunches....

Name the good wrestlers in the first 5 UFC's and list credentials.

Jarhead hit the nail on the head. Severn was the first wrestler with any significant credentials. I don't think he came along until UFC 5. I can't think of anyone with even the slightest college wrestling background before Severn.

Obviously Ken Shamrock had very solid ground skills with his pro wrestling and catch wrestling background.

    Ken Shamrock - Catch Wrestling
Kimo - BJJ background before entering the UFC (currently a blackbelt)
Harold Howard (3rd Degree black belt in jitsu)
Oleg Taktarov - 3rd degree black belt in Judo, Proficient in Sambo & Black Belt in Jitsu
Guy Mezger - Great Ground game. No credentials other than his dominance on the ground
Dan Severn - The name speaks for itself.

Severn was in UFC 4 BTW.

Correct, Severn was the only one with traditional wrestling.

Exactly. Anthony posting some scrubby BJJ guys.

Compared to today's fighters, these guys are bums though.

after severn, it was frye, coleman, and then kerr, couture, henderson, and randleman.

i think severn was frye's coach in college. coleman and kerr were friends and coleman also brought randleman. kerr beat randy couture in the ncaa finals. henderson was probably the most accomplished of that group, having been an olympian.

funny thing is that frye, despite his collegiate wrestling background, came out brawling for the most part. oh yea, same with tank abbott. i think he was a wrestler in junior college.

The bottom line, and to Z's accurate point, the early UFC's didn't have elite, top level wrestlers by any stretch. Hell, Severn was really the first.

Z said name some that had a good ground game. Wrestling isnt the only art with a Ground game. I think i proved him wrong pretty easily.

i said wrestling. You said ground game. then i listed wrestlers and people that were good on the ground. When you listed ground game i brought up wrestlers. But i didnt have to limit the ground game to wrestlers. All those guys i listed are ranked blacks belt and higher in ground game art.

Let's just say that not a single person from the first 5 UFC's would be Top 50 in the current UFC.

lets do this in order since you want to play this game:

As you can see, you initially called these guys bums that did not know the ground game. I brought up wrestling. I didnt have to limit the ground game to wrestling in this debate. You called people bums who had blacks belts and higher in art that worked on the ground.
Now you want to limit it to wrestlers is just not possible since your initial argument was Ground fighting. Clearly the poeple i posted were not bums when it came to ground fighting.

Their credentials say otherwise. Why ask for credentials if you are going to dismiss them?

You listed disciplines not credentials. What have they won in their respective sports? The early UFC's were nothing more than a set up to showcase BJJ.

    Anthony is, he always does.

I have no idea why he ever brought up these bums from the past anyway.

Their credentials are their ranks. All black belts and higher. If some of these guys were young and just entering the Current UFC, i dont see them as not being able to compete. Obviously things change. Today they would be adjusting to the current fighting styles.
