I'm going to Birmingham in december as part of my UK city tour. For such a big place it does seem like one of the more pointless, nondescript places on earth.

Well yes, what did you expect, the first point of entry to the UK is London, and with an official government policy from 2000-2011 to import immigrants from all over the World in order to buckle conservative support, I am not surprised.

In any event, it is a slightly misleading stat. Whites will be in the preponderance, just not the majority.
