November 2nd here for me.

Havent got IMAX though...but, like every Bond movie, it's puported to be the 'best Bond yet' ::

 

I know someone who's an absolute Bond-maniac (one of those who bids for actual auctioned-items off the movie-sets, etc) said it's one of the better Bond movies....but treads-water a little bit in the 3rd act.

Javier Bardem is perfect mix of menace and camp as the villain...the set-pieces on locaiton are, as usual, 10/10...cinematography was unreal...the only thing he didn't like, was that he said it felt a bit 'Dark Knight'-ish. :dunno:

Although I must say, I've never liked Judi Dench as 'M'..and because of her status as an actress, Dench as 'M' gets far too much involvement in modern-Bond movies.

Don't much care for the little 21-year old IT-dweeb as 'Q', either.

Bond movies go right over my head... They aren't bad or anything, but I never understand why people go so crazy over them... just never "got" Bond

 

Also, a LOT of Bond movies are utter trash as well.
I think, since the Connery-Era, there's only been 5 or 6 movies TOPS, out of 16...that really should be considered 'good' or even 'great'.

Just watched an early screening and it was a very good movie indeed but I gotta comment the fellatio scene. I was seriously shocked (and everyone else around me) to see Bond perform fellatio on that evil dude. I know it was meant to distract and eventually escape from that prison cell but still seeing Bond put that dick in his mouth (You don't see it literally but you see more than enough trust me) was beyond weird. BEYOND WEIRD. Other than that good stuff.

Reviews I've read so far today veer from 'Best Bond Ever' to 'Worst Bond Ever'...and to be honest, the latter are more objectively constructed.

it has a pg13 rating which means it will probably be bad to mediocre. Javier Bardem will probably be fun to watch though.

 

This is what I'm thinking....althugh I shouldnt jump to any conclusions.
Bardem is the shit...but one review I read said it was 'Bond for the Bat-Boy Generation'....and we all know what means.

it has something that has been lacking from Bond movies for a long time....a cool memorable villain

i'm glad i didnt see any trailers though...wtf...some of them from this thread completely ruin cool scenes like the train at the beginning, total surprise

 

Saw it last night, pre-screener.
Overall I thought it was good-but-not-amazing...thankfully much better than 'QoS'.

Craig was pretty good as Bond, Bardem excellent as I expected as Silva, whatever-the-Bond-girls-name-is-this year getting more and more surplus to requirements and Dench as 'M'? How much 'M' do we need in a single Bond movie?

Great opening, some good set-pieces, as I said earlier, amazing cinematography (Oscar-worthy), but I really miss a lot of the old-style Bondisms.
Also, I don't like nerdy-teenagers as 'Q' or black-women-agents as 'MoneyPenny'. Sorry.

I'm fully aware that times move on and the old franchise was wiped-out by the 'Austin Powers' series, but here we have the writers and producers looking to other big-stylistic movies rather than coming up with their own ideas, i.e. 'The Bourne Identity/Supremcy/Ultimatum' for 'Casino Royale' and 'Quantum Of Solace' and now 'The Dark Knight' for 'Skyfall'.
(you'll see what I mean by that last part when you've watched it)

Overall, 7/10....but looking forward to the next installment.
