    Shit just got REAL.

Anyway I agree, some of Zep's songs are simply ethereal. Some are horrible, not too many though.

    Hut, don't you remember laughter?

    exactly

the good is so good that the bed is easily ignored

Physical Graffiti boasts one truly shitty song ("Black Country Woman") ... other than that, golden

So a few Oasis songs came on at a bar I was at over the weekend. It became instantly clear to me when listening to them just how superior a vocalist Noel is to Liam.

Nah, you've slipped into that all-to-easy it's an encyclopedic-all-styles-masterpiece that dazzles critics and fans alike.
For me, it's the start of a period where they began to sound totally generic and lost all semblence of being 'fresh'.

In short, it's good 1970s hard rock-n-roll....but so was Bad Company.

Led Zep had some truly brilliant riffs.

In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
    Ooooooh, it makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
    Ooh, it makes me wonder,

 Fucking hell. One spliff from songs about wizards with 7 minute keyboard solos.

Never liked Stairway to Heaven. I'm not a Led Zep fan and would never buy an album of theirs but they have made some great songs. I probably respect them more for some of the musicians they've influenced.

    Utter and complete nonsense

It's the culmination of everything they ever did... There's nothing remotely repetitive on that record especially comapred to something as sleep-inducing as Bad fucking Company

It's not the beginning of anything so much as it is the end, the high point

There are just so many quality songs on the record

"Stairway To Heaven" ... come on, man... I don't know anyone who likes Led Zeppelin who has listened to that song since they were about 12 and first started listening to them:l2:

Does anyone actually like Pink Floyd that isn't high on drugs? I've never understood the fascination with that band.

I liked Pink Floyd when I was about 15 and into LSD and weed... Now, I'd say that they have a few songs I think are good, but mostly they are boring as hell and boast only one guy who can actually really play, which renders their lengthy, modal improvisations almost staggeringly boring

Also, the Syd Barett era sucked balls and those songs are some of the dumbest trash ever. The whimsy of an English oddball over essentially uninteresting, derivative song structures is considered "GENIUS!!" because the guy faded into Bolivian... They were a far better outfit with Gilmour on guitar and the egomaniac Roger Waters driving the car than they were with Syd Barett's Russel Brand-on-LSD, meandering horseshit

Trippy as in you need the immensely distracting, time-altering effects of an acid trip to actually "enjoy" it:lol:

    Hardly.
Put on the disc: 'Custard Pie', the by-now familiar cock-rocker album opener and you think, "Yeah, the magic could be gone".
It's pretty enjoyable though: the above track's okay but it's no crunching opener like 'Immigrant Song' or 'Black Dog' or 'The Song Remains The Same'.

'Sick Again' - ditto...'The Wanton Song' - ditto.
'In My Time Of Dying': 11 minute-jam? Yawwwwnnn.
'Ten Years Gone': it's filler, but I actually like that one.
'Houses Of The Holy': outtake from '73
'Boogie With Stu': fuck Stu and his plinky-plonk piano that I despise from everything he does with The Rolling Stones.
    'Black Cuntry Woman:' out-of-place country-rock
All these are are more or less tiny curious islands in a sea of pedestrian heavy riffage and mind-boggling jamming.

The main offender is Page. Compare him in 1970 and here in 1975 and you'll see that he's vilified his own techniques.

Okay, because it has the funny 'Down By The Seaside' on it...I'll give it a 7/10 at the most.

Again, I used to be a total Floyd-Head but Ive listened to their albums so many times, I get a bit bored.

I can listen to 'Dark Side Of The Moon', 'Wish You Were Here' and 'Animals' but I never got this modern-day fascination with 'The Wall' (again, double-album-sprawl)

The Barratt-Era is truly awful and one that only modern-day-jingly-jangly-Hut*Hut-esque-Indie-guitar-bands claim to like.
    Cocksuckers.

I don't think I like a single 'jingly jangly' modern Indie guitar band.

    Utterly absurd

"Custard Pie" is the pinnacle of that type of music, it shits from the heavens upon the likes of English Blooze dinosaurs like Bad Company and their cousin Free, never mind even lesser trash

It's certainly more enjoyable than "The Immigrant Song", which is an awful track and "Song Remains The Same" which consists of a wonderful guitar solo and little more than Plant at his most obnoxious

The other songs you mentioned are all lots of fun... great riffs, grooves

Down By The Seaside is a beautiful song, In The Light is gorgeous, Ten Years Gone as "filler"??? Are you high? Easily one of their greatest tracks... "Night Flight", "The Rover", "Kashmir", all wonderful tracks... Page had progressed as a guitarist by then, become more thoughtful... JPJ is all over the record, some of his finest work... It's a fantastic album... earlier shite like the dreadful "Whole Lotta Love", the insufferable "Dazed and Confused", etc. is garbage... I'd rather listen to the whole "In Through The Out Door" then be subjected to "Whole Lotta Love" or "The Immigrant Song" or "Rock N' Roll"... those songs suck balls

"The Wall" is to rock music what "The Shining" is to movies... some true believers claim these to be profound or great in some way, but in reality the best that can be said is that they are unintentionally funny

OOOOOOOOOOOH, BAAAABE, when I pick up the phonnne
