Daddy never hugged me so now I hate everything including this gay world famous pop music show! this is so gay & embarrassing wah wah i hate life and the machine! I'm too sensitive & delicate for the music business or performing on a show that features cheesy pop acts, even though I agreed to to promote my album!!:crying:

To be fair, I don't think it was about him being on the same show as cheesy pop acts, more that he wasn't allowed to play live and had to sing along to a backing track. If you pride yourself on high energy live performances then you're gonna feel a bit awkward, so he just took the piss

  7. No, no - I'm not dissing Some Girls...I suppose it all depends whether you like 'groove' or 'edgy'? :dunno:
Black And Blue gets unfairly criticized because it's almost a transitional album while looking for Mick Taylor's replacement - it's one of those albums you listen to when you want to hear The Rolling Stones really 'play'...

I find it a lazy album with second-rate songs, frankly

  10. The let me enlighten you, fuck-face.

The typical accusation with this album is that the compositions don't really go anywhere - for the most part, things like 'Hot Stuff', 'Melody' or 'Hey Negrita' just represent the band having mindless fun in the studio. But don't forget that this is not just any band :eek:hno: : this is The Rolling Stones, and nobody can make a dumb groove and turn it into a great experience as efficiently as them.

I admit 'Hand Of Fate' and 'Memory Motel' can be treated as serious compositions brought to finish, and even then they're not very typical.
The entire album feels homely, as if the band were just sitting in a corner of your living-room and jamming away and you were there.
It's not underproduced either - all the instruments are firmly in place, and the sound is crystal clear, you can hear everything going on.
It's also the most diverse piece of product in the entire Stones catalog - with the controls set to 'jam mode', I don't think Jagger/Richard pay no attention to the exact genre they were practicing: out of the eight numbers, no two ones fall into the same category, and thus you'll probably hate at least something on here.

But hey, that's what eclectic people like me are for - I'm perfectly able to identify with every one of these eight songs, and consider this album - together with Their Satanic Majesties Request (though that one was an entirely different affair) - as proof that the band was always able to get off that 'rootsy' tag stuck on them by those who can't see very far.

This is one of the finest 'lightweight' albums in existence, and no bandwagoning to that particular era's musical sounds going on....I don't care that the songs are underdeveloped or unfinished, because this is what they're meant to be...

man, none of the songs are particularly "good"

  12. Yeah, you're right.
    SHIT album.

Okay, moving on: Bernard Purdie - totally overrated jive-ass.

I wouldn't say "shit" album, but not particularly good

    Purdie was fantastic:nono:

I haven't posted much in here but I just wanted to say this:

I'm a big Sade fan, but her last album was one of the biggest musical let downs for me ever. I didn't like one stinking song and even the album before that where I maybe only liked one (Lover's Rock) it was still a top notch song. She's really gone down hill since Love Delux which is probably my favorite album of all time.

    Roy Orbison

  16. Bernard Purdie was good at what he did (light, inoffensive jazz/soul), but compare him to powerhouses like Simon Kirke, Ian Paice, Carmine Appice, etc,?

    Nah...

  17. Thought she'd retired from the music business in like, 1988 or something. :dunno:

    Jealousy?

  23. Yeah, cos me and my mates Paicy and Kirky can lay down some great, complex para-diddles, drinking pints of Absinthe for a laugh, getting blown by young rock-chicks while you're stuck at home, in your bedsit with your low-action-easy-to-play-Gibson, trying to work out the solo to 'Chain Lightning', consequently giving up and knocking out a quick one to a photo of 'You're Under Arrest'-era Miles...

  24. cdogg187

    cdogg187 GLADYS

I don't play Gibsons... most of the guys associated with cock-rockers like Kirke and Appice did however

man, your admiration for/fascination with Brit 70s sludge and your inability to see any valid reason people would think it sucked (i.e. "you're just jealous") is really puzzling

You honestly think Bernard Purdie couldn't play Deep Purple?

  25. cdogg187

    cdogg187 GLADYS

incidentally, I can play "Chain Lighting" fairly well by ear... I've never really sat down to work out the solo... I don't do that sort of thing generally
