Greatness in boxing is so often defined by matters which have absolutely nothing to do with the ability to fight, box, move, punch etc.Ja

Jack Dempsey is an ATG, despite never approaching 200lbs, despite defending his titles in a desultory fashion, despite being kept away from the best black heavyweights....Jack Johnson is an ATG despite being stopped by a guy as poor as Jess Willard, and despite himself avoiding his biggest challenges.

These guys are "greats" and both of them would get wiped out by either brother.

This is it. ATG for Jack Dempsey was being around during the roaring 20's and having matinee idol appeal.....he's a figure of a bygone era. Jack Johnson is an ATG for being the first black champ. Of course, he and Dempsey avoided solid black contenders like they had the brazilian AIDS.

Rocky Marciano is an ATG..cos he was undefeated and fought when IKE was at the helm and gas was $1 a gallon. Fought talented but faded guys and had an appealing style. But that was about it. Nothing more nothing less.

Fighters are often ranked based on what kind of fighter they became, and the early performances are not seen as important. Many pretty good fighters have gotten less than stellar start to their careers (Pacquiao, Armstrong, Dempsey). Thus, I don't see how those losses, the last which happened eight years ago, would erase seven-year championship reign

the fact is that neither Klitschko fought everyone out there like Dempsey and Marciano did...both Klitschko's avoided the best fighter out there for an entire decade

 

I say Vitali is more so than Wlad.

We saw Vitali give Lewis problems and I think he would be a real match for any great heavyweight but is just really unfortunate to not have the competition to prove himself as an all-time great.

Wlad less so because I don't think he's the true warrior his bro is and his chin is suspect, but would still give many heavyweights of the past problems with the attributes he possesses.
