Anybody see Marquez giving Chavez the trouble he has given Pacquiao? I don't. I think Julio is just too good and he would break down Marquez and stop him late.
Marquez faced two pressure fighters at 135. Juan Diaz gave him HELL for 8 rounds, and that bum Katsidis dropped him and gave him rough patches. Nuff said. Marquez would take the exact same beating Rosario took.
Chavez would beat the living shit out of him.....shocking if it goes to distance... Waiting for MWS....
:atu: at the idea of Chavez being in another league to Marquez. It's insane really. Who the fuck did Chavez beat that was even close to Pacquiao? I would pick a prime Marquez over Chavez at 130. It's just weird to me how overrated Chavez is, based on bludgeoning scrubs really. He was a very good, solid, world class fighter, but for some reason his popularity leads him to be remembered as this unbeatable, Duran esque beast. The truth is he wasn't even close to being in that league, of the Durans and Leonards of boxing history. I think Marquez would win a close, hard fought decision over Chavez. Marquez is more skillful, at least as powerful, at least as fast, the same size, similar level of defense, longer reach, better accuracy, better combination punching. Chavez has higher workrate, more stamina, and is tougher. But Marquez is extremely tough himself. I think just Marquez is a better overall fighter, to be honest.
He would have beaten them both easier than Marquez, there's no doubt about that, but so would a prime Marquez if he bulked up nicely to 135. And ultimately, he beat them both convincingly, just looked vulnerable doing it.
You're revising history here. Chavez was, and was considered to be by anyone who mattere, one of the very best fighters in the world when he was actively fighting. And now you're trying to make him sound like he was Ricky Fucking Hatton. :: You're usually a good poster, but sometimes your biases make your posts hard to read.
Biases? What makes you think I'm biased? I hate Floyd Mayweather with a passion, but you'll never hear me denigrate him as a fighter, he's superb and rated as he should be. And as you must know, I like aggressive fighters and pressure fighters. I have nothing against Chavez or his style. In fact I prefer his style to other fighters I "hate", or consider highly overrated, like Tito and Tszyu. Quite simply I just don't think Chavez is as good as advertised. I've said this before, but he gets talked about in the same breath as Duran etc. Who has he beaten that is even close to that league? I think Duran would have given him a 1 sided beating. And to be honest, I think Pacquiao would beat the crap out of him too.
Sorry dude, but most of your likes and dislikes are plain to see. And calling Chavez a solid fighter is not giving the man anywhere enough credit. And I'm no Chavez fan, but placing Ricky Hatton's description on him is off base. He was better than that. And calling making a blanket statement about Chavez's opposition being "scrubs" shows either you don't know very much about them or you are putting them down just to make him look worse and Marquez better. Sure, you don't get to nearly 100-0 without fighting some no-hopers along the, but there were a lot of good opponents in there too.
Duran would though. Duran is better in every single way than Chavez. Chavez doesn't hold one advantage over Duran, not even size, plus he doesn't have the type of style that troubles Duran. Duran would just eat him up at 135 or 147.
At 147 yes....at 135 NO..Duran wins 9-6...9-5-1...or 10-5...but it's not one-sided...those scores might look one-sided but at no time will we be saying...Chavez doesn't belong in there with Duran... at 135 Chavez might is what TOP 5 all time? Duran, Whitaker, Armstrong, who else??
No, Duran would win the fight and it would be very competitive because Chavez would be the best lightweight he ever fought bar none what does 147 have to do with it? Chavez didn't carry weight well and was well on the downside when he attempted to fight up there It's like saying "Hearns would kill Benitez at 175"
It doesn't matter how good Chavez is or how good you think he is, whenever you get a matchup where one fighter doesn't hold ONE advantage, it's 1 sided. Just like Floyd vs Marquez. JMM is a great fighter in his own right, but because he didn't really have one single advantage over Floyd, or the style to trouble him, it was a 1 sided fight. Duran holds every single advantage over Chavez, including size and strength, and I just can't see what Chavez would do to even bother Duran. Duran was troubled by slicksters, he'd just bully Chavez around the ring for 12 or 15 rounds, beating him to the punch every time, he'd out jab him and counter him at a distance, overwhelm him up close with far sneakier inside work, faster hands, and MUCH better defense. I just don't see what Chavez could really do to trouble him.
They're both among the greatest mexican fighters of all time. Neither has an easy time with the other... Wait. 135? :: Hard not to go with Chavez since Marquez was clearly at his best at 126.
It really isn't. Like I said, do you dispute that Chavez doesn't hold one single advantage over Duran, including size? I don't see how he is even competitive. DeJesus matches up far better with Duran than Chavez. Chavez wouldn't be able to do anything with him, just like Marquez couldn't do anything with Floyd, who was bigger and better in pretty much every way.
It really is. Bringing up 147 means nothing when discussing the fighters at 135. Unless you are just trying to stack the deck for Duran. You are grossly underrating Chavez.
it is 100% irrelevant how do you fancy Esteban DeJesus' chances against Ray Leonard or Marvin Hagler? different fighters have different bodies that handle weight differently... it means fuck all if they are both at optimum weight at optimum weight, DeJesus beat Duran once and gave him a torrid time twice more... at 147 or 160, DeJesus would have been splattered all over the canvas
How do you think Marquez would beat Chavez? Disagree that Marquez is more skillful. Chavez had a better offensive arsenal, better defense, and was just as intelligent if not more in the ring than Marquez. Chavez was also the superior body puncher, and he was physically MUCH stronger than Marquez. Chavez would force an inside fight and break Marquez down to the body. He'd also slip alot of Marquez's counters and come up with his own counters. Chavez also had superior stamina and as Marquez would start to slow down, Chavez would turn it up. Its competitive early, but by the mid rounds Julio would start to beat him up badly. And because Marquez wouldn't run and he'd fight back, his beating would be very reminisicent of the one Rosario took. Chavez TKO 10 I think Rosario would give Marquez hell. And even the lightweight bad chinned Roger Mayweather would give Marquez hell.
