Congrats to all, but I do not think Gatti merits Hall Of Fame honors.

He was a tough and crowd-pleasing kid but very flawed, but when I think that a great and gifted champion such as Esteban DeJesus is not in the IBHOF and a glorified club fighter like Gatti is, it does not do much for this organization's credibility.

For the record folks: DeJesus tears Gatti to pieces inside of 6 rounds.

I could actually see them both getting in, but not simultaneously. If Gatti gets in, it means that things like popularity and publicity are important, which disqualifies Hill. If they take Hill, it would seem that HOF concentrates on long career and good record, which Gatti does not have.

The IBHOF is a joke and has been for years

Did they induct another 4 or 5 "old-timers" this year or have they finally run out of guys to honor for winning a ten rounder against a champion once or for getting splattered by a legit hall of famer?

Hell, if the hall of fame was for real, Virgil Hill wouldn't be in there, never mind trash like Gatti

Also, Gatti shouldn't get in, unless that bitch that practically killed his career gets in too.

I agree. As much as I enjoyed his fights there is no way he Merits HOF. I cant believe DeJesus has not been considered.

I also agree that Virgil should not be in there as well.

This is really bad news for the IBHOF and boxing in general to induct two non-deserving guys like this.

Hill was a good boxer and top for a long time in perhaps the light heavyweight division's weakest era, but that is it.

No way in hell does that merit him for the Hall Of Fame when a great light heavyweight like John Conteh is not in.

What a joke that place is, and it does not do boxing any good at all in the long run for sure.

It's just a museum to pay tribute to Old-Timers. You guys need to stop taking this shit so seriously.

Gatti is box office............that's why he's in.

Virgil Hill got dropped by a body shot...........that's why HE'S in. Immortalized in song.

not only was Virgil a champ in a weak division, he avoided facing even the mildly decent challengers in that division (especially Andries and Harding early on, who were busy beating each other's faces in) ... he was also completely dominated and beat up by a very old, shopworn Tommy Hearns

Weak classes like this make me long for the days when legendary sure fire first ballot locks became eligible like Thomas hearns and marcellus Johnson.

CDogg, you should meet me and my dad at the next induction weekend in June. Easy drive, 4 hours, straight shot. Lots of cheap hotels up there.

    You'd have a great time.

You can shake hands with Michael Carbajal just before he gets completely blotto, and stare Micky Ward right into his lazy eye and tell him he looks nothing like Mark Wahlberg.

That can be a good thing, bro.

Wahlberg is basically a punk, and yes, Ward does have a bad lazy eye, but I do as well.

When you get thumbed and gone over through years in the gym and ring, those kind of things happen.

Most folks don't realize that even when you when fights, you take a beating.

Didn't Wahlberg give a guy a bad eye by attacking him in the street?

    I don't know, Irish.

What I do know is that a writer asked to interview Wahlberg about "The Fighter", and Wahlberg agreed to only after the guy would get into the ring with him.

The guy of course had no experience and didn't last a minute, and when I found out about this in 2010, it pissed me off a bit.

There are some folks in the media with boxing experience that will be glad to accomodate Mr. Wahlberg.

Cool, mark it on your calendar.

Any of you other bitches down for a FightBeat reunion in June in upstate New York? I'm normally all anti-social and shit, but I'd love to see LOK obliterate a watermelon in person.

    REED Knew this was Coming:scared:...

Virgil Hill was THE Best Lightheavy in the Division's POST-"Golden Age" (Spinks, Saad Muhammad, Mustafa Muhammad, Qawi, Marvin Johnson, etc.), Up Until the Roy-michalSHITski Era...All You Can Ask of a Hall of Famer is to DOMINATE his Contemporaries, which Hill Did, Primarily...

Yes, Hearns Moved Up & Beat Him, but Hill Re-Grouped & Re-Asserted his Control Over the Division Shortly Thereafter...

Was Hill SPECTACULAR or Even MEMORABLE???...VERY RARELY...That Doesn't Diminish his HOF Worthiness...Hill was "Wald Pussy" MINUS the Fight Ending Power & "Wald's" ALREADY a Guaranteed HOF'er, Like it or Not...There'd Be ALOT of Guys Kicked OUT Before Virgil Hill, if the Boxing Hall of Fame Revisited the Qualifications of its Entries....

    Congrats "Quick Silver"!!!...Ya'll Musta' Forgot!!!...

Dominate his contemporaries??? which ones??? He never fought Harding, Andries, Charles Williams, McCallum... what's his best win? Henry fucking Maske?

During a TERRIBLE ERA for the light heavy division, Hill failed to fight at least 4 guys who were among the division's best

Bob Foster dominated his contemporaries in a shit era... Virgil Hill didn't even fight, much less defeat, the big ones

Virgil Hill, like dozens of others, has absolutely no fucking business in the hall of fame

    disagREED Overall, Brother Karl...

Admittedly, Probably 20-30% of the Current Inductee's DON'T Belong There, but this is ALL Boxing Has, Ultimately...To REED, it's All about the FIGHTERS & Correct REED if he's Wrong, but he DOESN'T Recall a Single 1 of them Making a Big Deal about the Entry of Another (Maybe Nobleart Has a Story or 2 that SHITS on this Notion???)...

The Fighters Seem to EMBRACE the Latest Inductee's, Regardless of Worthiness...Shit, Even Marvin Hagler RETURNS to the States Every Now & Then, for HOF Inductions...

Given that Boxing ISN'T & HASN'T Been a Mainstream Sport for Some Time, REED has No Problems w/the FEW Times the Game CELEBRATES Itself...When Sly Stallone or Somebody Else Gets In, REED's Cool w/It...

    Here's Hill's Lightheavy Resume:

Leslie Stewart, Bobby Czyz, Thomas Hearns, Frank Tate 2x (Former World Champion), Adolfo Washington (Who Went On to Win a Crusierweight Title), Fabrice Tiozzo (Who Went On to Make a Pretty Good Name for Himself @ 175 AND Crusier), Lou Del Valle, Henry Maske, michalSHITski & Roy....

Virgil Hill's Lightheavy Resume is BETTER than Bob Foster's, in REED's Opinion...It's NOT Even Close, Really...In NO Way is REED Suggesting Hill is BETTER than Foster (He ISN'T), but that's NOT Even the Point of the Boxing Hall of Fame, OR this Discussion...

It's NOT Hill's Fault 175 Wasn't LOADED w/Talent Back Then...Nonetheless, He was THE Most CONSISTENT Lightheavy of his Era...
