I absolutely agree :bears: If Gatti is in, then surely Joe and Ricky get in Dog, Hut and Dave?

Would Joe Calzaghe deserve his place then, Mister REED?

You have got to be kidding me, REED

First off, Hill LOST to Tommy Hearns... BADLY. He lost to Roy Jones... BADLY. He lost a one-sided decision to Michalshitski. If we are going to start rewarding guys for losses on their resume, might as well put Frankie Swindell in the hall of fame

Secondly, Virgil Hill barely beat several of those guys (the fact that some had mixed success in an even worse division means fuck all) ... Bob Foster absolutely KILLED his opponents... he was the only champion in his division and he annihilated every guy out there, he ducked no one... I have given you four guys that Hill never fought or even attempted to fight who were better than all of his challengers . Furthermore, out of the guys in your list Hill actually managed to beat, I'd argue Foster's two best Light Heavy scalps-- Dick Tiger and the snake-bitten Pierre Fourie-- were better fighters than any of them. Neither came within ten miles of toppling Bob Foster. I'd make the first a solid favorite over Hill and the latter even money against him. Roy Jones fought a lot of bums too at 175, but at least he dominated them. There's got to be 20 light heavyweights I'd rank over Hill historically and about 30-40 sometimes light heavyweights I'd bet on to beat him in a match. He's a hall of famer only because the hall of fame seems to think it HAS to vote in a ton of guys each year. He was a pretty good fighter who feasted on shite mandatories and was absolutely dominated by the three elite fighters he faced (one of them nearly shot) ... If there were three sanctioning bodies in the 50s, a guy like Billy Graham would be a Virgil Hill... good and professional, skilled enough to handle the pretenders, but little more than a skilled target for the best... and even Graham managed to give a great fighter a tough fight once or twice. I'm talking about a guy who would be on page one in the book of 'get 'em out of there' with regard to purging the hall of fame. That's where Graham is, and that's the kind of fighter Hill was.

By the shite standards of the hall, is Virgil Hill a hall of famer? Absolutely. There are many inductees like him. If the hall of fame was even moderately exclusive, would he be deserving? not in a million years. The selection of he and Gatti, as was said earlier, is just one more thing that makes the exclusion of someone like DeJesus (a much better fighter than either of them) all the more baffling

They would both be deserving judging by someone like Gatti being in there... both were better fighters, even if one was an overrated wrestler/hacker and the other is an unwatchable, overrated, jazzercising faggot

Admittedly, Probably 20-30% of the Current Inductee's DON'T Belong There, but this is ALL Boxing Has, Ultimately...To REED, it's All about the FIGHTERS & Correct REED if he's Wrong, but he DOESN'T Recall a Single 1 of them Making a Big Deal about the Entry of Another (Maybe Nobleart Has a Story or 2 that SHITS on this Notion???)...

No, you're right. I've never heard another boxer complain and I've never even heard a story of another boxing complaining about so and so getting in. Some of the IBRO guys and the Cyberboxing guys will spend the entire weekend bitching and moaning about who does and who doesn't get in, but not the boxers themselves. They're just glad they have a place to be remembered.

The Fighters Seem to EMBRACE the Latest Inductee's, Regardless of Worthiness...Shit, Even Marvin Hagler RETURNS to the States Every Now & Then, for HOF Inductions...

Hagler is there almost every year. He's a bit gruff and I've heard some stories about people having bad experiences getting stuff signed by him, but he's there and usually spends time signing for fans here and there, you just have to catch him at the right time.

Given that Boxing ISN'T & HASN'T Been a Mainstream Sport for Some Time, REED has No Problems w/the FEW Times the Game CELEBRATES Itself...When Sly Stallone or Somebody Else Gets In, REED's Cool w/It...

Yeah, I used to get wrapped up in who got in and who didn't. It doesn't really matter to me anymore. It's just a cool place to go to remember the past guys.

BTW - not a big name in the States, but the Korean fighter Myung-Woo Yuh also got in. He and Virgil Hill are the only living boxer inductees, I believe.

REED, if I know you even a little bit, you could spend a good 2-3 full days there and have a blast. I'm more of a people watcher then a social guy. I listen more to what's going on, rather then getting involved, grabbing autographs, rubbing shoulders, etc...

You'd probably fit right in, not only striking up conversations with the boxers, but with all the other fans who go up there. It's like Comic-con for boxing fans.

That said, it's become a bit more sterile environment the last several years then it used to be. They don't let a lot of the guys mix with the fans as much as they used to. Tyson, Stallone and Duran were basically cloistered away until it was time to drag them out to wave their hands at various events..............but most of them just say "fuck it" and mingle around town all weekend.

Ugh. Neither fighter really belongs. Sometimes they get it right, other times we get stuff like this.

How do you feel now that the HOF just inducted a fighter who would lose to Vinny Paz?? (and no, this isn't me trying to make a case for Paz in the HOF)

Can't wait for when they lower their standards even more and vote Mickey Ward in because he had some good fights with Gatti, they made a movie about him and his brother was a crackhead who once upon a time went the distance with Ray Leonard.

haha, no problem. I like a nice drive. To someone from California, it must seem ridiculous to act like CT to upstate NY is a "long drive"

MANNER of Victory is IRfuckingRELEVANT to this Discussion, Bro...Bottom Line, Virgil Hill BEAT a BETTER Crop of Lightheavy's than Bob Foster Did...They BOTH Fought Subpar Lightheavy's, but Hill Beat MORE of them...

Dick Tiger (GREAT Porn Name, For what it's Worth) was Qawi's Height MINUS the Strength...Tiger was a Tough, Skilled MIDDLEWEIGHT who Could Fight @ 175...Problem is, Hill's Era Consisted of Guys who CAME DOWN from Nearly 200lbs, to Make 175...w/Out Question, Tiger's LOST to LESSER Men than Fabrice Tiozzo, Henry Maske, Frank Tate & Adolpho Washington....

Leslie Stewart & Bobby Czyz WEREN'T Slouches when Hill Beat Them, Either...Hill DESTROYED James Kinchen a YEAR After Hearns was Nearly KO'ed By Him...After That, Hill was a FIXTURE in the World Title Mix, @ 175, for a Friggin DECADE...That HAS to be Acknowledged...

Yep, Roy, Hearns & michalSHITski (aka. THE BEST Guys Hill Fought) Whipped Virgil's Ass...But So did Joe Frazier & Ali, in the Case of Foster...Remove the Losses from Each Guys Resume & Hill's STILL Looks Better than Foster's....

That's true!! I was up there in '11 when Mike and Stallone got in. Bert Sugar and a few friends of mine went to Graziano's for dinner. Carbajal was piss drunk as he staggered about the joint. He came over to our table and told Bert, "I don't like you! You write nothing but lies about me." Bert asked him, "What did I write, that you were sober?" That was funny as shit. Carbajal is a drunken mess.

I was once a media member. Damn, I wish that were me! I would have been more than happy to accommodate Mr. Wahlberg in a friendly sparring match. I swear, I would have given him a Mickey ward liver shot just to get him into character.

I disagree completely with my man REED.

Any of those guys you mentioned (particularly Marvin Johnson) would have wrecked Virgil and knocked him out.

What did Conteh accomplish that is more impressive than Hill? List their top 5 wins each and see where you end up.
