Carl Frampton to finally get shot at Kiko Martinez

Frampton (15-0, 10 KO's), will get the fight he's craved for a long time when he meets Spain's Kiko Martinez in February next year.

Martinez, 26, has pulled out of a possible meeting with Frampton twice now, with his most recent withdrawal last September. The two are set to clash in Frampton's hometown of Belfast, Northern Ireland, on the 9th February and the Belfast Man can't wait to settle a score with the Spaniard.

"He’s pulled out on me twice so I have a score to settle with him there,” said Frampton

“It’s a great fight for the fans and one that I have craved for a long time. I had too much for Steve Molitor and he was a step-up, so I am confident I can beat Kiko and do so in style,"

“Martinez pulling out in September was a blessing in disguise really, as I have been able to mature and learn even more and in February in front of another packed crowd at home,"

"I’m looking to make another statement!"

Frampton's trainer, Barry McGuigan, had to say on the matchup.

"We're pleased this fight is going to happen. I've always said that Kiko is a danger from first bell to last and I believe it's a harder fight than Molitor. Styles make fights and this one is going to be a barn-burner, and the team is confident that Carl will win, and win in style!."

Since turning pro, Frampton has won the BBBofC Celtic and Commonwealth (British Empire) super-Bantamweight titles and is the current IBF Inter-Continental super Bantamweight title holder. In his most recent bout he defeated experienced ex-IBF super Bantamweight champion Steve Molitor in 6 impressive rounds.

Martinez (27-3, 19 KO's), is the current EBU (European) super-Bantamweight champion and will make the second defense of the title. He has won 7 fights in a row with his last loss in February '09 which was against South African, Takalani Ndlovu. This is what he had to say on a meeting with Frampton.

"I do not read much into Carl beating Molitor as he took the fight at late notice and that's his only fight of 2012. I will beat him by KO - there's no alternative outcome,"

"It's not my fault that we have not been able to do this fight so far. There have been many circumstances around that but I know the belfast fans will come out and support Carl as always and it will be an electric atmosphere!"

It is said that the European title Martinez holds and the IBF Inter-Continental title that Frampton holds will be on offer in the bout.

Let's hope Martinez doesn't pull out for a third time!

He made mince meat outta Molitor. Granted Steve's best days were behind him. However he was never KO'ed like that

Making no excuses for Molitor, but it was said that he took the fight at very late notice.

Despite this, I like Frampton and can't wait for this fight.

Molitor was a solid pro, easily a top ten fighter at super bantam. I expected Frampton to win but on points. I was genuinely surprised at how easy it was for Carl

Well, he's no James DeGale, that's for sure.

Is he a fish-eyed, daft cunt? If not, that could explain why Slice hasn't warmed to him

    Could be. He's a cold-faced, slant-eyed, Protestant Killer.

Looks like a guy who would take orders from Robin Jackson:lol:

  13. Looks a good show and am considering going over for this one.

Lee Selby on the undercard is in a decent fight with Martin Lindsay.

It's been awhile since I ventured that far North, How much are the tickets?

  15. Floor and tiered seats are on sale from the Odyssey Arena website priced £30, £40 and £60, while Ringside tickets at £100 and Inner-Ringside VIP tickets at £150 are both available from Matchroom Boxing's website.
    -----------------

Decently priced. Think flights are only about £60. I'd be going to see Selby but it looks a good main event aswell.

I was shocked to scroll through the rest of the thread and nobody had noticed it.

Frampton was such a let down to me when I found out about talk boxes, when I was a kid I just thought he was so awesome he could actually make the guitar talk!

    same here!

LOL, me too... as a kid, I thought "wow! How does he do that???" when I would hear it on the radio and my father said "it's a device called a talk-box..." ... bummer... LOL... His music is corny as fuck, but he was actually a very good guitarist, to be fair

Frampton needs to go to a great trainer and say "I want you... to show me the way... every day"

It's too early to judge Frampton.

He made easy work of Steve Molitor, first guy to stop him. Kiko is pretty average but he has decent power at the weight. I expect Frampton to win but even if he does I dont think it will tell us much about him on a world level.
