It's music that John Lydon probably listens to.

Jazz - a genre that's pretty much best-appreciated when experienced 'live'.

part of the beauty of jazz is that the vast majority of it, like the above track, is already live

    your point is completely nonsensical

    there's worse things

you could be listening to the music that Ultimate Warrior listens to, which I imagine would be heavy metal and North American prog-rock (Kansas, Rush) that appeals to his libertarian "intellect"

"Jazz musicians enjoy themselves far more than anyone listening to them does. It's like theater. It's what you do when you can't get a gig"

You just don't listen or learn do you?

I'm not a fan of the man but two of his cited influences for PiL were Beefheart & Can. So as brother clogg says there're worse things......and you've posted most of them in this thread

Damn right it's not. You can't seriously think Satriani isn't a GREAT guitarist.

The quotes of whatever faggot are supposed to influence me to change my mind about a fantastic artform? I could care less. There's more than enough of us who love the music.

he's a great guitarist the same way Whitney Houston was a great singer... all technique, no artistry to speak of

I wouldn't walk down a flight of stairs to hear Joe Satriani play

Actually, cdogg and I have very similar viewpoints in music (and tastes, I might add - a lot of his stuff I like...only a small % I don't) - we don't actually disagree on that much.

whatever faggot said that quote HAS to be a non-musician... probably a rock critic or a promoter of some kind, that would be my guess

Sure, broadly similar though it's fair to say he's more.....discriminating.:scared2: But to go back a bit, the last 10 things I've posted have been Modern Lovers, Velvet Underground, Flava Flav, Caribou, TV on the Radio, Bobby Conn, MGMT, Arthur Russel, A certain Ratio, Sparks, Captain Beefheart

    What there is 'angry'? Nothing.

No hiding under the chair....I know what you're saying.
Dogg has probably 'grown-up' more, muscially.
I go through phases...stuff I used to listen to....I get back 'into' now and again...and then I think: "Yeah, it wasn't that good, was it?"

I don't go along with that 'music-for-demographics' theory: I can happily listen to Heavy Metal, PiL and 70s disco and prog and jazz and New-Wave, Queen and Sparks, etc, etc all over the place....if it sunds good to my ears, I don't really care...

    1) Obviously great musicians... I don't like any of their records... if you want to know where people like Z got the unfortunate idea that "jazz = elevator", you can put Weather Report on the list of those responsible... it turned biting, nasty, screaming Wayne Shorter into an insufferable wimp... a jazzier David Sanborn... VOMMMIT

    2) The original group was fabulous... The first two albums are classics... McLaughlin is one of the most unique guitarists that ever lived, no one and I mean NO ONE sounds anything like him. The live record (Between Nothingness...) is pretty good but is horribly recorded and reveals what is suspected on the original studio recordings - Rick Laird was the weak link in that band... McLaughlin playfully recalls "Sunshine Of Your Love" and Laird can not figure it out, can't even get in the right key... I don't expect everyone to have perfect pitch, most people don't, but I expect a pro jazz musician to be able to recognize such a simple melody and to easily determine the key his co-hort is playing in by at least LOOKING at him... The later incarnations of the group? Ehhhhh... Michael Walden was a great drummer but the problem is that the music was nowhere near as good... "Visions" has a handful of moments where you are like "YES!", the opening two-part track is vicious, but it is marred by the OBSCENELY STUPID choral singing... "Apocalypse" is absolutely horrible and proves once again that electric band/symphony orchestra is a dish best not served in the first place... The last one released under Mahavishnu name "Inner Worlds" (I think that was the name) is horrendous and at times, embarrassing

    3) See Weather Report... though I do like some of the "Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy" record (despite the title) and would happily sit through it... the rest? awful, especially when they brought in that bitch to sing ... Chick Corea has skills for days but he was way better as a sideman than a leader

I don't think all jazz sounds like elevator music, I just don't think it's very good music. It's just boring to me. I like lively music.

I bought 'Surfing With The Alien' the week it came out...and to this day, I've played it maybe 5 times, tops.

Anyway, as a 'guitarist', Paul Gilbert blows this guy away...

hardly... you find me someone outside of the ranks of metal or Guitar World magazine who has had critical raves for any of Joe Satriani's recorded output and I'll buy you a B-Bender

    Great technician, non-existent artist
