Paul Gilbert is the man, I agree. CDogg would hate him though, he plays too fast, he's just showing off.

Heaven forbid people push the limits of guitar playing, they should all sit around and practice jazz.

they should maybe learn what things like beauty, joy, pain, bittersweet nostalgia, irony, humor are first... then they can learn what memorable melodies sound like and then work from there, I suppose

who knew jazz was such simplistic, limited music? Thanks, Z... I'll let the people running through "Giant Steps" know

Everything there is to do in jazz has been done, it's like the blues, it's all done. There is nothing to discover. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate good guitar playing no matter the genre but it's stale.

we will never be of like-minds when it comes to heavy metal... I will continue to slag off metal and shredding while simultaneously being glad that it makes you happy, because at the end of the day, that is what matters, and it is still better than listening to Coldplay or Katy Perry

For sure, I know we don't agree on music much, but I feel the same way. Music is very personal, not everyone will agree on what sounds good. At least we can agree that pop and most modern music in general is rubbish!

Can't really understand getting pissed off at pop music. It's always been shit....it's like getting angry about the weather.

no, that's the problem. It hasn't.

The Beatles were pop, The Stones, Zepellin, etc., etc. and so forth

YOUR Beloved Talking Heads were pop, numerous top 40 albums and singles

The idea of any of those artists having a top 40 album/single if they were to come out now is preposterous

    'My beloved Talking heads'.

If somebody brought out 'burning down the house' today it'd chart just as high as it did in 83. The point is, if somebody as creative as David Byrne was about now he'd be making more niche stuff than Talking Heads. MGMT's first album is pretty much the only recent thing which bridged accessible pop and experimental indie music (and that charted) whereas there was more overlap 30 years ago. I think that's the difference.
