Becker described the song well... " The protagonist is not a musician but he sort of imagines that that would be one of the mythic forms of loserdom to which he might aspire. And who's to say that he`s not right?"

  4. I mean, Gilbert is a technically amazing guitar-player...but what the fuck is he going on about?? :scratcher:

 Seems like a nice guy.

I'm sure he is a nice guy

And he is "technically amazing" ... so is Mariah Carey :boring:

  7. I need to cull some music off my Ipod and replace with something new. However, I already own 90% of the greatest records ever made and I don't like 'new' music.

    Suggestions.

is the new Soundgarden album any good? :dunno: i'm almost scared to listen to it because i love the previous 3 albums and thought that they would leave in their primes

  13. Yes, its pretty good....get it.

  14. Fucking hell - the alltime Top 5 selling UK albums:

    1 - Greatest Hits (1981) - Queen 5,866,000 copies sold
    2 - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) - The Beatles 5,059,000
    3 - Gold: Greatest Hits (1992) - ABBA 5,046,000
    4 - 21 (2011) - Adele 4,562,000
    5 - (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (1995) - Oasis 4,555,000

Who's Adele? Is that the fat blonde one?

  16. Correct. The fat blonde one who "speaks like this innit..nah what ah mean?" and flicks the 'V's at the Brits audience...

  17. In fact, barring compilations shows the chart as:
    1 - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) - The Beatles
    2 - 21 (2011) - Adele
    3 - (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (1995) - Oasis
    4 - Thriller (1982) - Michael Jackson
    5 - Brothers In Arms (1985) - Dire Straits
6 - The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973) - Pink Floyd
    7 - Bad (1987) - Michael Jackson
    8 - Back To Black (2006) - Amy Winehouse
    9 - Stars (1991) - Simply Red
    10 - Rumours (1977) - Fleetwood Mac

Compare this list with that of the USA:
    1 - Thriller (1982) - Michael Jackson
    2 - Untitled (1971) - Led Zeppelin
    3 - The Wall (1979) - Pink Floyd
    4 - Back In Black (1980) - AC/DC
    5 - Come On Over (1997) - Shania Twain
    6 - Rumours (1977) - Fleetwood Mac
    7 - The Beatles (1968) - The Beatles
    8 - Appetite For Destruction (1987) - Guns 'n' Roses
    9 - Boston (1976) - Boston
    10 - No Fences (1990) - Garth Brooks

Can't decide which list is pisher. It's really close....

Would have thought Nevermind would have made the US list, at least above Come on fucking Over by Shania Twain.

  20. Slice N Dice

Slice N Dice Big stiff idiot

    Shania is banging, though

  21. Only sold 10 million or so copies in the US....which puts it way, way down the list.
To put it in perspective, Creed, Kid Rock, Green Day, Linkin Park all have all an album which outsold 'Nevermind'...

  22. Slice N Dice

That makes me sad, it's probably the defining album of that decade

  23. Hut*Hut

The 90s weren't great but i wouldn't damn them that harshly

You know it's the truth. Everybody knows the album cover if they're not blind and everyone knows the first song from it if they're not deaf. It's just basic facts.

Adele is the Al Jolson of the 21st Century

her next album should be called "Yessuh, Boss"

    Nevermind sucks goats
    the lyrics are hilariously bad

I disagree, they're just written in a very non-linear fashion. Lithium is pop perfection. Still though, it is the defining album of the 90's.

  28. Weak era though.
    Look what competition it has:
    OK Computer - Radiohead
    Achtung Baby - U2
Automatic For The People - R.E.M
    Metallica - Metallica
Blood Sugar Sex Magick - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
(What's The Story) Morning Glory? - Oasis
    Superunknown - Soundgarden
    Ten - Pearl Jam
    Dirt - Alice In Chains
    Dookie - Green Day
Use Your Illusion - Guns 'n' Roses

That's off the top of my head, re: 'rock' music albums, there's some good stuff there, but nothing totally stellar...

    ^ Offspring too
    and Rage Against the Machine
    Smashing Pumpkins

these bands had albums that were up there...90'scompetition is pretty decent
this is before we can get into pop (like Michael Jackson's Dangerous) and then there's rap.

Grunge was the biggest musical "movement" of the 90's (in a global sense), and Nirvana were at the forefront of it, with Nevermind being the breakthrough album. I'm not saying it's the best album of the 90's, heck it's not even my favourite Nirvana album, but the impact it made on popular culture can't be denied.
