I meant recently, nobody's got it right. Mainstream music is a wasteland.

In terms of what are deemed "classic" rock bands, I'd say the cream of the UK is better than the US. I mean, come on, it's The Beatles we're talking about here .

Just to re-iterate, my favourite band are American, I have no beef with Anerican music. Don't kill me Cdogg

Overall, USA has produced greater music across the spectrum, if you encompass all genres. Which should be expected.

One band! I would never diss the Beatles, but let's not act like that was some sort of typical English product... it's SORT OF like saying the SPL must be a real good league because Celtic is a good team:lol:

(This list includes bands I don't like, despise in fact)

    The Beatles
    The Stones
    Pink Floyd
    Led Zepplin
    Black Sabbath
    The Sex Pistols
    The Clash
    Queen

This is just off the top of my head, and there are more, but love them or hate them the bands listed above have had a HUGE impact on popular music and influenced and shaped future genres, scenes and generations. Of course America has too, but if we're comparing rock bands from the two countries lets not pretend there's some gaping chasm. There isn't.

So we are going to include bands we DON'T actually like, then?

    Okay:

    The Beach Boys
    The Dead
    The Byrds
    Creedence
    The Eagles
Fleetwood Mac (who only became internationally huge after the two Americans took over)
    The Allman Brothers
    Lynyrd Skynyrd

All of the above, off the top of my head, were ridiculously successful and had a HUGE impact on future scenes, genres, and generations. WHat's your point, caller?

You are the one who said "Engerland is Lord of all that is Rock"... NOW you are asking me to allow you to sort of break even!! SEE YOU!

BANDS bro. I'm not going to say Rock in general when you guys have the Elvis trump card

But yeah, even still, I'd say the top UK bands are superior. You should have included Buddy Holly and The Crickets by the way.

I'd listen to the Dead on repeat for the rest of my LIFE before I'd sit through a fecking minute of such Royal-oid Broadway fuckery as QUEEN, cartoon sludge like Black Sabbath, or the carefully crafted PR spectacle known as the Sex Pistols... I can respect The Clash a little, but again that music does nothing for me 99% of the time... I will also handily take the Dead over the entirety of Pink Floyd, even the Pink Floyd songs I like

Beatles, Stones, Zep? great... no doubt... the rest of your list doesn't float

I don't deny that Cdogg, stay on topic

Elvis, Michael Jackson and The Beatles are the "big three" when it comes to musical superstardom though.

They may have been manufactured but the Sex Pistols had a massive impact, and heavily influenced the last great American music scene.

Yeah, the strange. cod-eyed. head-wobbling singer...the baldy drummer...the emo-looking guitarist who flops about everywhere and whoever the other 2 are.

Basically, bed-wetters from Oxford who can't handle fame or success.
    Please. :shit:

    'Tommy' is wank.

But let's face it, after a while, Steely Dan become a little fucking tiresome.
I heard Donald Fagen's new single the other day and I just thought: "Is this cunt still doing this kind of stuff?"
    Boring.

I read one review of his new album as follows: "the music is deceitfully lush, a snazzy cascade of rock, R&B and swing, with production as costly as a Santa Monica beach house"

no black folks = no rock and roll and no R&B

therefore, no whites ever start imitating it

It's the FIRST time in YOURS:lol:

If Steely Dan played more poorly and were booked at CBGB's in 1979, you'd be singing their praises!
