The third one wasn't even close. I mean if you score that for Marquez it's because you're really trying to.

Marquez just has Pacquiao number......for 3 fights he had he had the 7 numbers 246-9901 but didn't have the area code....then in that fourth fight he finally lucked out with the area code (775) 246-9901...

Can Marquez had beaten the Margarito, Cotto, Mosley and Clottey that Pacquiao face? Hell NO....

Marquez is a swell bloke and an honest chap so maybe the last paragraph is accurate. But the legendary Marquez would have beat the crap out of anyone else pacquiao fought and if he had a fan base full of delusional pinoys he would have actually got some of those fights instead of being avoided durin his sharpest years

I had it the other way. I think people gave Marquez rounds because they were surprised how well he was doing at the weight. Maybe I'll watch it again some time and see if i score it differently

yep. the whole idea that jmm won that fight was based soley on the expectation going in that he would lose in one sided fashion. when that didn't happen? and instead he was competitive? the conclusion from many was that he had won. but he didn't.

I remember TRYING to score rounds for Pacquiao in that fight, because I wanted him to keep the run going so Floyd-Pac could still happen etc, but I just couldn't. Marquez definitely won that fight IMO.

Either way... the split in our scorecards is proof the fight (or any of the first three) was not a robbery. It was a close fight with hard rounds to score.

i scored the third fight for marquez because he kept landing more of the harder, cleaner punches to pacquiaos face and body.

I strongly disagree, I thought the third fight was a clear win for JMM.

I thought the first two were arguable, I thought the third one was an obvious Pac win. I'll watch it again some time

When i saw the third one i felt afterward that Marquez won it. I did not score it round by round however.

Yeah he took some hard shots of his own but certainly was getting the better of Marquez. Because of their history and JMM's ability to fight back i still thought he could come back and make a fight of it but never a one shot KO. That was insane.

I disagree with this too, Pac was definitely winning the fight but JMM had his moments aside from the right hands and won at least one of the rounds very clearly (can't remember which one(s)).

Of course, Zab Judah was also winning every moment of his fight with Kostya Tszyu apart from the one right hand ...

I thought the first was the most disputable, the second & third I felt were close but clear wins for JMM

To return to the third, Pac outlanded him in 9 rounds with 2 even. No knock downs, no serious hurt put on by either man - in those circumstances I have a hard time scoring for a guy who gets outlanded 9/12. True, Marquez landed quite a few of the more eye catching shots but that's not the same as winning the round, imho. Personally i think he got points for handling the bigger Pac so much better than most expected

Nah, only round he won clearly before the KO was the round he knocked Pac down.

I might be exaggerating slightly but he was well on his way to a dominant win on my card anyway. Totally moot as I said, tho

I agree with this. A lot of teenybopper 'woaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh' scorecards for Pac/Marquez 3. Calm boxing fans who know how to score had it for Pacquiao.

I didn't score the third fight but as I watched it I thought Pac had done enough to win, though I expected JMM to get a lot of credit for being a lot better than most expected. I have no real trouble with a close decision either way in that one. The second one, on the other hand, was JMM's fight. I remember hearing the score cards and thinking he'd been flat out robbed, then the next day I was here, rewatched the fight and posted a scorecard with comments and simply couldn't see how Pac had won the fight (though it wasn't the robbery I first thought).

Even in the second fight there were enough cards from respectable people on both sides. When opinions are so split, 'robbery' is always the wrong word. It was a hard fight to score with lots of close rounds.

It wasn't a robbery, for sure, but it wasn't that hard to score. Only one or two rounds were debatable; the rest were pretty clear one way or the other really. Anyway, it's an old drum not really worth banging anymore.

Except he wasn't. Zab won the first 30 seconds big and then Tszyu won the remainder of the fight until the coup de grace.
