Calzaghe suffered from a lack of self belief. He was actually a pretty handy, fast, hard-chinned, adaptable boxer/slapper.

So Jake said that Hopkins didn't pull out of a fight with Calzaghe?

And as usual, we'll ignore the fact that Calzaghe peaked late(like Hopkins) & was very close to his absolute best and that Hopkins would have been fucking mental to take the deal offered in 2002.

As long as we don't pretend that Calzaghe was young or say that Joe should have fought Hopkins earlier, I have no objections.

He was 'young' boxing wise in that he was pretty much at his peak.

I give Ward some props. He's better than what I used to think of him, but I think Joe would have found a way to win. Just a better fighter imo.

Based on Ward's excellent power, superior handspeed and Joe's record of being stopped a few times?

Amen. Ward would whip the wimpy Welshman so bad he'd be shipping shillelaghs to Schenectady by spring.

based on both of their fights with Kessler, it seems to me Ward is the better fighter. Too bad Calzaghe was a chicken shit or we might actually know how good he was.

Yep. At least Ward is trying to fight the best guys out there. Can't say the same for Calzaghe.

    Still laughing at Miranda

I am the least biased poster here, so I see things as they are. Calzaghe beats Ward.

Who cares? When was he better? When he was making a three course meal of David Starie & Richie Woodhall? When he was getting put on his ass by Charles Brewster? When?

Not only did Calzaghe lay the blueprint, he didn't have to use goat tactics either to achieve his win
