OK.. I'd pay to see it. Make it happen Joe Silva. It would be cool to see Showtime's striking versus Aldo's. Apparently Pettis can make the weight. I know Ricardo Lamas is on a tear at 145 but he needs a little more fan following. Pettis is a know commodity. http://espn.go.com/mma/story/_/id/8...nterested-jose-aldo-anthony-pettis-145-pounds
Is he going to cut a leg off? I don't know how easy Pettis is going to make 145, he's not small at 155.
Pettis is just sucking up to Dana so he doesn't have to take another fight before fighting Melendez vs Henderson. But yes that would be a very good striking match up. If Pettis loses his 155 title bid I look for him to go down to 145 and fight Aldo or even Edgar. Dana loves this of course because it gives him more potential big match ups which equals more money.
Looks like Pettis is gonna fight Aldo in August. Dumb move on his part. He can beat Henderson (or Melendez). I can't see him beating Aldo. TFK
I'd rather see him fight Henderson again. That was a great fight. I hate to see guys like him drop too much muscle mass to fight below their natural weight class.
Melendez is overrated, I think Pettis would beat him down. I think like other Cesar Gracie camp fighters, Melendez will come up short against the elite of the division.
he still wants the henderson fight, but from what i read, he'd rather get whichever the big fight is available and doesn't want to wait too long in case the winner of hendo/melendez gets sidelined w/ injuries. makes sense.
I cant believe you guys are bashing my boy Melendez like that. He is the goods. You will all soon see.
melendez is good and looks very difficult to beat. but then again, so is clay guida. i guess we'll find out soon enough.
I just don't think Melendez is all that good. And I lost any respect I had for him years ago when him and Coker talked all that shit about wanting to fight Alvarez, and when Alvarez and Rebney agreed to the fight, they backed out, citing 'television issues' because Bellator and Strike Force were on 2 different networks. Rebney then said Alvarez could fight Melendez on Showtime on a Strike Force card in San Jose, and still they chickened out. TFK
Yeah, I gotta give TFK credit for sticking to his guns. His hatred for the 'Scrap Pack' never wavers. And keep in mind, he could try to boost up Melendez to make the best (and most significant) win of Alvarez's career (Aoki) seem more important. But the idea of Melendez being afraid of Alvarez is nonsense.
No, saying Melendez chickened-out is speculation and not fact. Neither you or I can say for sure why Scott Coker wouldn't let it happen. But let's be honest, at the time, Strikeforce was a far bigger promotion with a far better TV deal. It is not unusual or suspect at all that Scott Coker didn't want Bellator getting free publicity at the expense of Strikeforce. Equating that to Melendez chickening-out is just pure speculation. And let's be even more honest. Alvarez COULD have stayed with EliteXC and then Strikeforce, but opted to fight in Japan with Dream. He could have been fighting the Nick Diaz's and Gilbert Melendez's of the world instead of Hellboy and one dimensional Aoki. The guy that seems like he's purposefully avoided the bigger promotions is Alvarez. Maybe it was the smart business decision or maybe I could say he was too chicken shit or afraid of getting popped for steroids.. But that would be speculation not fact?
Two things that are wrong with that.... When Alvarez fought in the Dream tournament, that is where the best lightweights in the world at the time were fighting. Aoki was considered by most the #1 lightweight in the world at the time, and guys like Kawajiri, JZ and Ishida were all in the Top 10, and Hanson and Dida Top 15. Alvarez was by no means ducking top competition fighting in Dream. On the contrary, he was jumping right into the deep end of the pool. And second, he did stay with EliteXC, and if you remember was actually weeks away from fighting Nick Diaz before EliteXC went under. Their fight was scheduled for November 8th, Unfortunately the Kimbo fiasco that killed the company happened on October 4th and they went out of business on October 20th. I'm surprised you don't remember me freaking out when I heard the fight was cancelled. TFK
