The Broner-Ponce Fight is Sooooo OVERBLOWN...

First & Foremost, let's STOP Pretending Ponce TOOK the Fight to Broner OR Put ANY Level of HURT Upon Him...He Didn't...This Fight was More about what Broner DIDN'T Do, than ANYTHING Ponce Actually DID...

Prevailing Wisdom Had Broner MURDERing Ponce, so as Each Round Passed & that DIDN'T Transpire, Ponce Got CREDIT...

It was a Shitty Performance by a DISinterested Broner, No More, No Less...Those of You Acting as if Ponce Presented Something STYLISTICALLY, that Broner Couldn't Handle, are FOOLING Yourselves...Try WATCHING the Fight, Fellas...

Could Ponce have Been Awarded the Decision???...Absolutely...Was it a "Robbery"???...Absolutely NOT...

Woowwww. Julio Diaz is shot to living shit, and wasn't even shit in his prime. Juan Diaz hammered that clown in his PRIME, that tells you all you need to know about WHOlio's worth.

Holt blasted Diaz not too long ago.

Team Khan is NOT playing around anymore after the Garcia fight.

    Khan is FULL protection mode.

It's not unheard of at all for a very young prospect, who's not yet hit his prime to have a close run with an old vet early in his career.

The Broner haters know GODDAMN WELL that the Broner of right now would murder Ponce, so they need to STFU about that fight.

I didn't even know he fought Porter.

Damn, I knew Porter was trash, but I didn't think he was shitty enough to draw with a washed up never-was like Diaz.

you want everyone to just forget that fight happened. and acknowledging that it happened and that Broner might have lost it (you admitted it yourself) is some how over-blown?

point is, when Broner takes on some top opposition and begins to earn the praise he's already getting, then maybe people will not feel the need to remind everyone that Broner basically lost to Ponce. Point is, in the absence of meaningful wins to justify the praise he's getting, the Ponce fight is and will continue to be a significant point of reference for deciding how good this guy is.

  13. Xplosive

DeMarco is better than Ponce, and Broner shit on him. And by Broner shitting on him, Adrien basically crushed the entire legacy of Valero, since DeMarco was Valero's best win, and Broner beat him in FAR more impressive fashion.

Neither REED nor I are acting like the fight didn't happen. We just see what's EXTREMELY apparent, that Broner was still green going into that fight and since then has come into his own.

Would YOU favor Ponce to beat the current version of Broner?

Was There ANY Moment where Broner was Dropped, Stunned, Buzzed, Staggered, or Even REMOTELY Hurt???...Was Ponce Putting On Some MASTERFUL Boxing Display???...

The FACT of the Matter is, Broner was LISTLESS & DISINTERESTED that Night...No Different than Andre Ward was vs., Uuuummm, Kenny Kost or Darnell Boone...

Do You HONESTLY Think Ponce Wins a RE???...REED Doesn't...How Many of the Guys that Broner's Beaten, Post-Ponce, Would YOU Pick Ponce to Beat Himself???....

REED Isn't Encouraging Anybody to Forget Broner vs. Ponce...Just Don't DWELL on the Shit...

when he's being talked about as "the goods," and given praise for beating Reese and De Marco, it occurs to me to be relevant - the fact he lost to Ponce.

i thought Valero's win over De Marco was more dominant. Broner had some good spurts against De Marco and finished him off nicely, but I thought Valero's win was more impressive.

Double, is it better to have a close fight with Ponce De Leon early in your career? Or get KO'd TWICE by Javier Jaurgei, and Julio Alvarez early in your career? As Castillo was.

i'm not damning the guy for losing early in his career. what i'm damning is all of the high praise that seems so willing to overlook (even dismiss) the loss as meaningless, when he's yet to record a win big enough to make up for it.

yes. broner is promising. especially considering his apparent punching power and temperment, which together with his speed and skills is an uncommon combination (one that's not present in PBF, for example, and wasn't there in RJJ). but the thing is, he's no more than promising at this point. that's my point. i'm not holding one loss against the guy or saying he's not good because of it. i'm saying there remains some doubt that he hasn't erased. and beating Rees hasn't helped in that regard.

There should be no remaining doubt about the Ponce fight after the DeMarco fight.

You can't HONESTLY tell me that Ponce is better than DeMarco.

And regarding RJ. Jones after his first 26 fights had 23 KO's, so obviously his temperment wasn't exactly passive.

Broner isn't NEARLY as talented as Roy, and Floyd anyway.

In RJ, and Floyd we're talking about two top 5 ALL TIME talents.

Nobody thinks Broner is THAT good.

However, Broner is good enough that in 2 years or so he and Ward will likely be debated for P4P #1.

he might not be better than those guys but he's more exciting to watch. at least so far. maybe he will be less exciting when he's fighting someone his own size.

In your eyes maybe. Not to me.

Watching Roy and Floyd in their physical primes was more exciting to me, because you were watching two guys who's talent was so extraordinary that you couldn't help but watch in awe. Especially Jones.

"Far more impressive" fashion than Valero? You sure about that Xplosive? You seem to be spouting some rather extreme Boner hugging recently.

I always found Valero to be EXTREMELY overrated, but the fact is both guys dominated DeMarco and made him look like he didn't belong in the same ring as him. It was much of a muchness. To say Broner was far more impressive is crazy, they both beat the shit out of him in 1 sided fashion.

  25. Xplosive

DeMarco was stopped on his stool against Valero. Broner put more damage on him, actually DROPPED him, and stopped him a round earlier. And Valero was supposed to be KNOWN for his power. And got hit LESS than Valero in the process.

    How's there any argument?

My impression from both fights is DeMarco took a hellacious beating. I mean really, one round earlier? Who cares? Dropping him is impressive, but I don't even remember Valero getting hit much by DeMarco either.

Especially considering scumbag Valero beat the crap out of him first, I'd say the impressiveness is pretty even, both guys dished out a huge amount of punishment on him and beat him in very 1 sided fashion.

Who the fuck ever said he was?

    Broner is Floyd extra-light.

He has more power at 135 than Floyd had at lightweight, but that's literally it. EVERY other facet of boxing Floyd's better at.

As for Roy, it'll be a loooonggg time before we see another fighter as talented as Roy.
