Gamboa would beat Hamed anytime, anywhere, with or without PEDs. When are people going to realize Hamed was not a world class fighter.
Gamboa is just as flawed as Hamed, Mex. He fights like an idiot alot of the time with wild punches, bad balance, and his chin in the air. I don't see anything he does too much better if at all than the Prince.
He has faster hands, he is more agile, he's a bit less hittable, and has more boxing skill. Sure he is hugely flawed too, but he has more fundamental skill than Hamed, and just a lot more talent. Better timing, accuracy, combos, handspeed, and better overall power too I reckon. Hamed was great at landing big, absurd potshots that scrubby opponents didn't see coming, that's about it. Put it like this, can you imagine Gamboa being schooled in 1 sided fashion by Barrera?
IMO Gamboa is faster and stronger than Hamed...but it will turn into a fire fight of speed and power. Right now I have to go with Hamed by eventual KO.....haven't seen Gamboa badly hurt but if you going to trade punches with Hamed you better have good balance and have that chin tucked away. You can't have it hanging in mid air like Gamboa.
Yep, has the better, more consistent power. Hamed's raw power was highly overrated, he was just good at catching scrubs with huge haymakers they didn't see coming.
I can't for the life of me see Gamboa handling Naz's power. I gotta say, as OVERRATED as the little Turd was when he was around, he sure is UNDERRATED today. It's a CRIME that the bum punching bag known as Gatti is in the HOF, and Naz isn't. But many fighters deserving of the HOF aren't in there.
Disagree about better power. I can't see the likes of Salido or De Leon going more than 4 rounds with a prime Hamed. And Gamboa doesn't really have that much technical skill either. He relies on his athleticism all the way, much like Mosley did in his prime. Gamboa has no jab, no good sense of distance, bad timing, and throws wide shots that leave him open to counters. Its just TOO HARD to imagine the Prince not finding the openings and putting Gamboa out. And Gamboa would have gotten schooled just as badly by that version of Barrera, as did Hamed.
Why not? He's never even been badly hurt, he just gets knocked down flash, like Tito. Barrera had been KO'd before, at 122, and Hamed couldn't put a dent in him. Hamed's power is absurdly overrated.
Yeahhhh but Barrera fought in a totally different style against Hamed than he did when he was stopped in the 1st Junior Jones fight. Barrera took more chances when he was at 122 and fought behind that left hook to the body. At 126, he switched it completely and became a counter puncher and thus Hamed wasn't able to find him with the kind of clean shots he wanted. He would have no such scenariio with Gamboa whom would be right there in his face throwing wide shots, off balance, with an exposed chin. This is a fight where both would get hit and Hamed is naturally stronger and simply has more firepower.
I've been down this road with MWS before, it's pointless, fellows Subjectively, Hamed is one of the hardest hitters I ever saw... only featherweights I ever saw that could rival him are Arguello, Danny Lopez, Saddler and a guy nobody remembers named Antonio Esparragoza
I watch Esparragoza's ass whuppin of Stevie Cruz all the time. Beautiful display, one of the more enjoyable technical ass whuppins of all time. He was a helluva fighter, and had power, but I don't think he had power like Hamed.
agree... but he was definitely a banger, especially with the right hand... he's a notch behind Hamed and the other guys I mentioned
When did Hamed flatten anyone anywhere near as good as Gamboa? That's the question really. Hamed's hype train of a career was based on flashy entrances, verbal bullshit, and KOing old fighters or scrubs.
Same questions/concerns apply to Gamboa..he has never come close to fighting anyone near Hamed level......
Sure they do, but at least with Gamboa we don't know for sure that when matched with a true world class fighter he'll get picked apart, dominated, and made to look like a clueless scrub. We know for a fact this happens when Hamed fights a prime, world class fighter.
