Stann is a really great guy. I met him and he was super cool. Having said that good for Wandarlei. He's an old warrior on the very tail end of his career and he got his big win in Japan. I'm happy for him.

Pride's last stand! the last two fights did it for me. that was a pretty good card. i was a bit disappointed by sanchez not taking the fight to gomi, but he seemed uncomfortable from the get-go.

So much for those predictable mismatches.

    LOL

Amazing slugfest in both those last 2 fights.

Up untill Hunt-Struve, I thought the card was shit. But boy oh boy did these 2 fights delivered. I don't have many fighters I'm really fans of these day's, but Silva and Hunt are and they both managed to pull the upset in great fights.

Or Hunt vs Nelson. That would be quite the old school slugfest

i dont think hunt and silva winning were big upsets. i thought hunt was going to catch struve at some point and he did. as for silva, if he can withstand some punishment in the early going and the guy in front of him is not an elite fighter, he can win. i still can't believe he got lit up by leben the way he did.

Looks like Hunt broke Struve's jaw.

Easy to say now but before the fight you said it was highly likely Hunt would lose in devastating fashion.

all i'm saying is that they weren't huge upsets. struve's not an elite guy, neither is stann. i thought the biggest upset was gomi not getting his ass kicked by sanchez. i'd figured it would've been a repeat of his fights vs. guida and diaz.

Yep, saw that too, claims to have a broken jaw along with a couple of missing teeth. Don't know if it's true or not (dubious to know so soon after a fight), but if so, poor guy, he may never be the same after this.

Hunt should really stop with these walkout ko shot. Sure it looks cool as hell but one day, it may bite him in the ass

For his own sake, Struve should be cut. Skinny tall hw take the longest to mature, they are usually not in their prime untill they fill up toward 30-33 y.o. Struve has been fighting in the UFC vs tough opponents basically his whole career, and that's not the place to learn your trade. He has taken way too many punishement and bad ko losses for a 25 y.o. Let him rebuild up for 2-3 years outside the octogon vs weak opposition. As of now, he's heading toward dammaged goods, if not outright brain dammage, at an alarming pace.

Struve was weird in this fight. Especially in the stand up. If he used his reach it would have been a lot better for him but he kinda seemingly just stood there and egged Hunt on to come at him. I think it had something to do with an interview that I read where he was saying how he has a good chin and people should stop saying he doesn't. I think he was trying to prove something in there. If Struve had a chin and learned to use his reach he'd be a really really good heavyweight.

Ya I agree. It's hard to believe he's only 25 (!) He has been on the receiving end of some brutal knockouts and took part in a lot of wars. But no way UFC cuts him because UFC cares about money first and then everything else second and Struve is an exciting (arguably most exciting) heavywweight they have.

Struve is a stupid motherfucker. He should have pulled guard every time he got a chance. Having multiple KO losses but yet he thinks he can pull a Mayorga on Hunt. OK he was tired in the end but all this engaging in standup to try to be exciting isn't gonna get him a win in those type of match-ups. I dunno whether or not this is smart from a business perspective. On the one hand he is doing his best not to get cut by being exciting but on the other hand he will never get to the top like this.

I actually went to this fight as I'm stationed in Japan. I thought it was a totally shit card overall and the Silva fight was the best one.

Speaking to the Struve fight: From what I've seen from Struve in the past and what I saw tonight my thoughts were that that fight looked like a total farce. To me it looked like Struve threw that fight. There were a couple things I saw that made me think this. Like when Struve was on top of Hunt and started throwing these punches that had nothing on them and were missing badly. Then when he was in stand up he would just stand there and not do anything at times. At the beginning it was so weird that I thought Struve was just toying with the guy, but when he never turned it up and seeing the rest of the fight it just looked to me like he threw the fight for whatever reason. I'm not saying that is what happened just that is what it looked like to me.

Just watching the prelims and then the main card now, so I'm staying away from spoilers, but that was a good debut for Hyun Gyu Lim. That knee caught Marcelo Guimares pretty good and he fell backwards in slow motion. He was screwed. Good one shot stoppage.

I thought Caceres lost that fight, but it was pretty close in the second. He lost the first, but he definitely won the 3rd by a good margin. I still don't enjoy watching Caceres though. He just seems like a moron.

It always seems to me like he's just too tired to follow up  But it could also be a good strategy because it really puts the referee on the spot. Imagine if the ref said screw this keep fighting and Hunt dives in and Struve subs him? If I were UFC officials I would tell him to cut it the hell out and let the ref do his job and not do it for him.

LOL. There must be far less painful ways to throw a fight. That might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever read.

UFC absolutely LOVES Struve because he brings the excitment but if they found out or even as much as thought he threw a fight they would fire him on the spot and never bring him back. EVER. UFC cares a lot about their image and the very last thing they need is for people to start thinking fights are fixed! So if Struve ever ever thought of something like that his career is done. I think Struve just wanted to prove his manhood in there. Keep in mind Struve was exhausted he never goes beyond a round or two.

Yeah so Struve took a horrendous beating, got concussed, lost teeth, and got his jaw broken just so the UFC couldn't tell that he threw the fight. Great strategy.

The bottom line is that Struve was positive that he could easily submit Hunt on the ground. He absolutely exhausted himself trying to do it. And Struve's timing and reflexes have always been shit when boxing. Travis Browne, Roy Nelson and JDS all found that chin the same way.

Struve didn't throw anything LOL That kid has way too much pride and heart to even contemplate anything like that.

Man, Hunt is one of those guys where you see so much potential, but he looks like he trains in his kitchen. Poor Struve, he has the reach and the size, but it can't be much fun hitting the ground from 7ft up. Hunt took a pounding, and then he puts together a sloppy flurry and Struve gets dropped. He looks like a giraffe on ice when he gets hurt.

That is a great great fight to make, but Nelson would sub him eventually. If Nelson stood with him the whole time, I'd be amazed.

You can really see the distortion in Struve's jaw after that left hook. It looks like it got shoved over and stayed there.
