Because you said I don't post anything boxing related? You could at least know what you're talking about.
"Nobody discusses boxing... this site is a joke" except for the many dozens-of-pages-long threads that accompany every reasonably notable fight... sounds like you could use a tutorial on "knowing what you are talking about" means WHAAAAAAA
There is little to deconstruct. Wald is huge, accurate puncher, has his boots on 90% in reverse, clutches like an octopus and the division is immensely shallow. That's pretty much why he's successful.....he's good at what he does.
*Z* I get your point man but you gotta admit its hard to get absorbed in the standard of fight recently. When there are fights worth getting excited about more of us discuss them but....Golota-Salido? Price-Thompson? Abril-Bogere? Aint nobody got time for that! Roll on Donaire/Rigo & Ginger/Trout :bears:
I know man, it is hard to get very excited about boxing in general lately. Up until about a year ago, I never once posted in TAAA. Now that is where 90% of my posts are. I just felt bad for a guy trying to start an actual boxing discussion and getting this instead. There are some good fights coming up though, you're right about that. Rigo vs Donaire should be a good one.
You think so? I'm on the fence still on this one. I think it's a toss up. I just know it will be nice to see Donaire fight someone who actually tries to win.
wald pussy is the Alex Smith of boxing. Instead of opting for the long ball (power punching) early, he throws tedious checkdowns (jabs) for an overwhelming majority of the fight in order to win with relatively little risk. And in order to prevent turning the football over (suffering a knockdown), he throws the ball out of bounds (clinches). He's the boxing equivalent to a gridiron football quarterback game manager.
If Kaepernick were a boxer I think he'd hit really hard. Just throwing that out there since you brought up Smith.
How old is this Phoenix guy? Did he just hit puberty or just get his first computer? Boxing is so last decade. If he wanted to have consistently good boxing discussions he should have been here ten years ago. There's a few stragglers left but overall the quality of the boxing discussions on here pretty much mirror the current state of the sport itself. As for Wlad, I've always said that his success stems from his number one talent and that is and always will be his above average height and weight in comparison to other boxers. Had he been around in the 60's, 70's or 80's when more fighters his size were around he wouldn't even be a top 20 HW. Does he do everthing correctly? Probably so, it's one of the reasons he's so robotic, but then again his height and reach allow him to do everything so textbook and correct. If he was average height and weight he wouldn't have time to think before every move he makes. I wonder does he even care about the sport or his legacy, because he just seems to be out there because it pays good and that is why he won't take any chances. We're talking about a guy who got so boring at one point that HBO pretty much fired him.
you haven't had a post about boxing that was spot-on, even by accident, since the Clinton administration!
Yeah, LB, you're off base about the size thing. wald pussy would've been big back them too. But good call. It's worth keeping mind that HBO did everything they could to hype the brothers. wald pussy is so unwatchable they had to cut ties.
When fightbeat is 'on it', the quality of discussion is excellent and most of my more enjoyable 'big fight' watching of recent years has included having the appropriate RBR thread open whilst watching the bout on TV. But those threads are few and far between nowadays and there are indeed a lot more threads about cocks than there are quality boxing threads (though I take the point that there is a definite lull about the sport at the moment which is a contributory factor). Here's a Q - is Wlad the greatest affleet the division has ever seen, taking into account size, mobility, coordination, power, speed, strength etc?
Who are all these guys that were as big as Wlad in the 60's and 70's? Seems to me there were more smaller HW's back then. Wlad is big for any decade in boxing. You can't really say Wlad wouldn't be good if he wasn't as big as he is, the fact is he is exactly as big as he is and there is no changing that. It's an advantage like any other, it's like saying Mike Tyson would be been a bum if he couldn't punch at all. What about Lennox Lewis? How good would he be if he was only 6' 200lbs? Not very good I would imagine.
I don't know how I feel about the term "Athletic" when it comes to boxing. What specifically does that mean? He's a boxer, which is a sport and he's good at it so technically he's a good athlete. What's the criteria for a good athlete in boxing?
SPEED for Certain...Speed of Hand, Foot or BOTH (Preferrably)...COORDINATION...BALANCE...FLUIDITY...Mobility...Good Reflexes...These are All Markers of a "Good Athlete" in BOXING Terms... Ali was Athletic...Foreman & Frazier WEREN'T... REED:hammert:
REED would Rate Wlad HIGHER than Lennox for Certain, Athletically...Lennox was a Bit of a PLODDER, in Terms of his Footwork... REED:hammert:
To be athletic in boxing terms you gotta be fast, black and use a hippety-hoopy style with flashy moves a la Zab Judah. Athletic means you could also be a good track and field guy. Long jumper or sprinter or Basketballer. Other athletical terms like strength don't count as much.
Zab's ATHLETIC for Sure....For Whatever Reason, a BLACK Guy Usually Springs to Mind, when you Think of an "Athletic" Fighter... But White Cats Apply too...Ricky Hatton was Athletic....Jason SHITzau's Athletic...Paulie Malignaggi's Athletic...Vinny Paz was VERY Athletic...Willie Pep was Athletic... Other Non-Black "Athletic" Boxers???...Manny Pac's Athletic...Camacho Sr. was EXTREMELY Athletic...Prince Naseem was VERY Athletic...Amir Khan's Athletic...You don't Necessarily HAVE to Be Black, to Be Athletic...
