Ah fuck, have at it lads. It was a brilliant performance I guess. Reminded me of Sugar Ray in his prime. He'll demolish everybody he dares to throw more then 10 punches a round at between 118 and 144. His footwork was incredible. Like Brian Boitano in a boxing ring. I wish all fights were this "pure". Just win baby, like a young Pernell, but Cuban, and not young...........gurgle, gurgle, arghhh, arghhh, arghhh, spit.

Noble, you must know I like aggressive fighters like Duran, Pacquiao, Morales, Tyson etc - but how can you not be impressed with a performance like this?

It was a boxing masterclass, and he didn't even fight like a bitch. He basically just controlled Donaire every second, and the occasional time Donaire did land, Gondo would land right back with something better.

Because I'm afraid this is what boxing will become. It was like watching a game of tag.

Pretty much,, some people would rather spint the shit out of something raher than admit they were wrong. Rigondeaux fights very much like the stereotypical Cuban Olympian, just better.

As for the fight, I kind of agree with Nobleart. Rigondeaux fought a very boring fight and Donaire ( who isn't much of an action fighter if he has to lead ) didn't make the effort/adjustement he needed to do. I don't blame Rigondeaux too much though because it was his big fight and he was winning fighting safe, would have been devastating for him to lose by ko, something that definitively could have happened had he opened up more. Still, he has to be more entertaining in his nex fights if he doesn't want to fell into irrevelancy. Unfortunuately, I don't think he has it in him, so I'll pretty much expect his fights vs top opposition to be the same kind of tag match

allot easier to be active against Diego Corrales, tho. Against Donaire the same openings aren't there and the risk is much higher if you try and force the issue.

Not only that, but Donaire wasn't facing a long prison term for beating his pregnant wife and didn't have problems making weight as Corrales did.

I made the distinction a long way back, I realize there are differences between Corrales and Donaire.

For 11 rounds, never landed more then 13 punches a round. I don't care what sort of a Goliath, Rigo was apparently fighting. I'm sorry, that doesn't get my panties wet for me.

It wasn't like Donaire was flashing some sort of an elaborate chess game back at him. He was coming forward the entire fight, and if nobody saw Rigo literally duck and run on several occasions, I don't know what else to say. I'm not going back and watching it again to give some time stamps to look up.

Yes, he has tremendous footwork, he's not as clumsy as others with a similar style. Yes, he nearly white washed an excellent fighter. Yes, I've seen him fight before and thought he had an excellent chance against Donaire. No, I'm not looking forward to his next fight. I'll watch it, but I'm not looking forward to it.

bullshit he "didnt have problems making weight" !! he starved for weeks before the fight, had a rotator cuff that was completely torn and requires surgery, and was completely distracted by his own wifes pregnancy.

and to top it all off he had never seen a second of footage of his opponent, in fact he heard from mike rossman that there is no such thing as rigondeaux.

Thank God someone else saw this as it happened SEVERAL times during this fight. I couldn't watch the entire thing it was so boring. Rigo would bend at the waist and literally run, it was disgusting and if i were a ref, point deductions galore as i don't call that maneuver the sweet science. The only place Donaire could've possibly hit him was the back of his head, which I would of told him to do.

if rigondeaux was a welterweight he would beat mayweather jr at this point.

Maybe I need to rewatch the fight, but I didn't think Gondo was being that negative. He wasn't aggressive obviously, but he didn't run, and he ALWAYS answered fire with fire.

Floyd has been much stinkier against scrubs like Baldomir.

  18. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

mayweather jr had plenty of stinkers vs far less dangerous foes. go watch his fight with gustavo cuello. and he had more than 12 fights at that point

That would be pretty sweet. I do know some folks who don't let an occasion like death, or unavailability, or advanced stages of Parkinson's, keep them from getting certain items signed for them.

Yeah, let's stop pretending Rigondeaux is some sort of babe in the woods...................and stop making me stick up for Floyd. :nono:

i rewatched it and it was certainly more dull in the second half of the fight. rigondeaux had tamed the guy and donaire wasnt trying to win/press so it became tedious, particularly in rounds 7 and 8 where rigondeaux employed too much movement imo. as for the running i didnt see it. at times when he was near the ropes he would duck and maneuver himself back to the middle of the ring.

  25. Nobleart

Sorry to disappoint you REED. It was like watching paint dry in a meadow of growing grass. "Fire with Fire"? So he does that what.............once or twice a round, lands 2 or 3 more punches in the round on top of that, and that's the measure of his activity.

Well Merchant's gone and you've got your wish..............you can enjoy Kellerman and his "purist" love of the sport for the next 40 years or so.............while everybody else abandons boxing and goes to watch Cage Fighting instead.

The Problem w/your Assessment of Rigodeaux-Donaire is you Cast ALL of the Blame, for it's Lack of Merchant Approved Carnage, Upon Rigondeaux...In a Fight that he's LOSING GOING AWAY, is Donaire NOT Liable???...Is he NOT Expected to FORCE the Issue???...

Nobody's Abandoning Boxing for MMA...If Anything, MMAists are Beginning to Play it SAFER When they Fight, Leading to DISGRUNTLED (ie., LAZY) Fans of that Sport...2 of the Top 3 Guys in MMA (Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre) are OFTEN Considered "Boring"....

LAZY Fandom is LAZY Fandom, Bro...Regardless of the Combative Sport...

@ Least w/Kellerman, we'll have a Guy Commentating who Actually Seems to LIKE the Sport...If a Fight DIDN'T Consist of 2 Blood & Guts White Guys, Merchant Acted as if he'd have Rather Been ANYWHERE ELSE...Merchant was a PISS POOR Ambassador &/or Promoter of his Employer's Product AND of the Sport that Gave him a REASON to Be Employed in the First Fucking Place...

One thing Ill add to my stance on this conversation is the concept that maybe Donaire didn't "go for broke" earlier as some like Reed suggested because he didn't feel like he was clearly losing the fight until very late.

For the viewer or even the ridiculous HBO collection of commentating dipshits it might have been easy to see. But if your Donaire and your corner is telling you it's a close fight and you don't feel like you're getting beaten, maybe he just didn't feel any sense of urgency until late.

When our getting hit 6 or 7 times a round, it's probably easy to mistake a close fight for a blowout.

As it turns out, if that was the case with Donaire, he wasn't too far off in the yes of the judges.

  28. REEDsART

    REEDsART MATCHMAKER

If Donaire HONESTLY Thought he was Even CLOSE to Winning the Fight, he'd have Said SOMETHING to that Effect in his Post-Fight Interview...

Donaire KNEW He Lost, Convincingly, Which is Why he had a Laundry List of EXCUSES Falling Out of his Mouth...

Donaire Not Only Lost the Fight, he KNEW HE WAS LOSING the Fight...Nonetheless, he Did NATHAN to Alter the Course of the Bout...Rigondeaux's Plan A WORKED...Donaire's Didn't...The ONUS (ie., Pressure, Blame, etc.) was on Donaire to Come Up w/Plan B, but he was Clearly RELUCTANT To...

Donaire looked frustrated and disheartened as early as round 3 or 4. He knew he was losing the fight, he just lacked the balls and fighting spirit to do anything dramatic to change it.
